The Public Offering Free Tix This Weekend  Nov 3 2012, 11:05:53 AM
The 4/5/6 is back! (http://alert.mta.info/sites/default/files/pdf/hurricane_recovery_map_bw_Nov3_am_0.pdf)
'GIANT' first preview  Oct 29 2012, 05:41:29 PM
Saw it yesterday afternoon via rush (actually rushed Saturday night, but idiotically didn't check the ticket and showed up late, but they kindly allowed me to past-date the ticket). For future reference, all showtimes for Giant seem to be at 1pm for matinees and 7pm for evenings.

RippedMan, definitely give rush a try, especially as it's early in the run. Check the Public's twitter account, as they usually give daily updates as to rush availability.

Anyhow, I really enjoyed it.

The Public Theatre's Shakespeare/Park presents INTO THE WOODS -- Discussion  Jul 24 2012, 12:05:34 PM
Hey everyone, I just walked down the line and polled informally and got these stats:

6:30am: water fountain, first big tree w/mulch clearing underneath (this is the spot I aim for, and have never been turned away at this point)
7am: set of benches under complete tree cover, on the slope, before the line switches to the west side of the path
9:15am: rock of no hope

As of 11:50 the end of the line was about 50 yds south of the 86th street transverse.

I saw it on Tuesday, walked up at about 6:50 for a 7pm curtain and got a seat (orch row E, house left).
Streep and Kline do one-night Romeo and Juliet  Apr 17 2012, 02:07:28 PM
For how long can you legally pitch a tent at 79th and CPW?

Mostly joking.

Whatever happened to Amy Spanger?  Apr 15 2012, 06:36:34 PM
She didn't ditch The Wedding Singer prematurely, although I believe she missed quite a few performances at the beginning of the run.
Waiting for tickets to Into The Woods  Apr 3 2012, 08:24:13 PM
The stand-by line, especially early in the run, is your friend. Head straight to the park after work and sit and wait. Go to the stand-by line on a day that was rainy in the morning, but clears up mid-afternoon. Go to the standby line when it might rain. Go on a weekday.

In general, whatever you do, don't wait until the end of the run. If you can, see it within the first week. If you wait in line in the morning, get there no later than 7. But don't wait. Go see it as soon as you can. I

Once Rush?  Mar 11 2012, 07:58:17 PM
Got there at about 10:45 (for a noon box office opening) this morning and the tickets ran out a few people ahead of me. They give away 20 tickets per show.

VENUS IN FUR Moves to the Lyceum with Nina Arianda & Hugh Dancy; Now Plays Through June 17  Dec 12 2011, 02:32:58 PM
Great news! Congrats to all involved.

It seems that the remainder of the run at the Friedman is sold out, so I look forward to catching this one again at the Lyceum. :)

It starts in A-flat Major and modulates to C Major at the end.
Did anyone go to the Venus in Fur first preview?  Oct 15 2011, 08:34:11 AM
Gah, I saw it last night and absolutely loved it. Really strong performances by Nina Arianda and Hugh Dancy; I saw the former in "Born Yesterday" last season, but she really shines here. The tension escalated for nearly two hours and never broke. The only way I could've enjoyed myself more is if the gentleman in the row behind me who was vocalizing with every exhale would've stopped moan-breathing. *sigh*
Celia Keenan-Bolger, Colin Donnell, Betsy Wolfe and Elizabeth Stanley to Star in MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG at Encores!  Oct 11 2011, 11:20:43 PM
I am not too familiar with Merrily, but I look forward to seeing Betsy Wolfe. She is a wonderful performer.
Sister Act Rush Lately  Sep 19 2011, 11:05:59 PM
I tried rush in the evening twice last week and came up empty-handed. However, rush on Saturday morning wasn't so bad. I arrived just after 8am and was, probably, 5th in line, and it was a slow but steady line growth until 10am. However, I don't know if this was an anomaly due to the sudden change of the seasons (read: cold weather).
People Like Us  Sep 16 2011, 10:06:04 AM
I bought the CD shortly after seeing both Toni and Eartha perform on Rosie (as I was 13 and not living in the city, and wouldn't have been able to see it if I tried), and this has been on my short list of favorite songs ever since. It really is just stunning- I'm glad to see there's a lot of love for it.

I remember in high school I sang "Lowdown-Down" for a competition and a classmate sang "Life of the Party" from Lippa's- no one in my class had heard of the LaChiusa version. So disappo

Question re: FOLLIES rush  Aug 20 2011, 09:15:37 PM
I stopped by some evening last week and the very amiable man at the box office let me know that generally, as of late, rush tickets sell out within the first hour of opening on one-show days, and within two hours on two-show days. It obviously couldn't hurt to get there early, but consider those bounds when you are planning to rush.
