Yes, 'Alice' is one I also knew off. Completely forgot to mention it!

I honestly don't remember too much about it (my memories of the musical numbers have been effectively overwritten by the performances on his "Frank's" solo album), and there doesn't seem to be much information on it online. I did find this, however, and it's pretty interesting, particularly for those of us in this particular niche:

Quite a cast of Steppenwolf regulars, William Schimmel on accordion, plus "incidental trickery" by Teller!

Thanks for the link! I'll definitely check it out.

Internships  Jan 27 2020, 01:10:15 PM

Heads-up, kids. An internship is unpaid. That is what an internship is. I was baffled with the amount of applicants I encountered who did not know this when I was looking for an intern years ago. Yikes!
"

Excuse the confusion, but I don't think internships are strictly unpaid now? The internships I've had, both on/off Broadway and outside of the industry we

I don’t really know anything about his life so I can’t speak to that, but I certainly mind having another Tom Waits musical in the canon.
"

"The Black Rider," sounds interesting! I'll have to go digging for it, thank y

I'm currently a freshman enrolled in college here in the city. I'm majoring in Arts & Entertainment Management with a potential minor in Special Events Marketing.

My friends and I, all freshman, are seeking internship positions to work in the industry. I was curious as to if anyone on this board knows about companies that will hire/intern freshmen for the spring season?

While my friends will be away for the

Tom Waits On Stage  Jan 27 2020, 10:17:40 AM

Maybe I'm part of a very niche audience, but I'd love to see a musical about Tom Waits or using his music! I'm a fan of his musical of Woyzeck but I'm honestly not too sure if he's been involved in one since. I also think his life and personality is rather interesting enough for some kind of musical or play.

Again, super niche topic, but I'm curious what you all think of that?

Agreed! The Len Cariou interview was the highlight for me! I went on Saturday (first BroadwayCon actually) and this was the event I was looking forward to most!

Adaptations You Would Like To See?  Jan 7 2020, 09:17:37 AM

This is going to sound so silly, but I would love to see a play adapted from Nina George's 'The Little Paris Bookshop.' Yes, the title sounds super saccharine, but it's such a charming story with wonderful characters. I could see it as a feel-good play. Here's the link to the synopsis for those curious! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23278537-the-little-paris-bookshop

Best Songs of the Decade  Dec 30 2019, 10:40:05 AM

My top choice would probably have to be "Answer Me" from The Band's Visit!

Problematic casting? What does that even mean? There's no "problematic casting" in WSS. It's a perfect cast, every single one of them. And certainlynoneof them deserve your UGH.

Brecht Pieces to Revive  Dec 30 2019, 10:32:52 AM

Whoops, late to the game!

I'm so happy that so many people responded to this chat. I don't think Brecht gets the love he deserves in the theatrical world, so this was a great surprise to see people with as much knowledge and admiration.

I also appreciate the continued additions and corrections to my initial description! Brecht is such a beast to explain for newcomers, and you folks did great in helping me out.

It's been the only production that made Brecht's text work for me- Brecht once wrote that he wanted to see theatre that was treated as something as accessible as a boxing match, but with loftier ideas. And this production leaned into that idea- there were comedic bits and

I hadn't heard of Classic Stage's production, I'll have to dig around and learn more about it! I'm curious, anything specific that you liked about Mac's production?

Worst Broadway Show of the Decade?  Dec 26 2019, 01:33:47 PM

'Pretty Woman,' hands down. It offered nothing of value to the medium, the casting was not its finest, and was overall boring.

Yes, that's the one! I believe Mac used a different translation of the play than the one that I used, but it was The Good Person/Woman of Szechwan/Setzuan. Sadly, never got to see it. I wish I had though!

WSS 2019/20  Dec 26 2019, 01:26:39 PM

I just bought tickets for the February 15th show, and orchestra level! I'm personally very excited to see this revival (problematic casting aside...ugh), and have always been a fan of Van Hove. Can't say much until I actually see it, so I'll try not to forget and update!

Ado Annie D'Ysquith said: "Okay, excuse my ignorance, but I just read the definition of epic/Brechtian theatre and it made no sense to me. Can someone here explain what it is, exactly?"

I'll admit, I'm not the best at explaining, but I will do my best!

Epic Theatre, in its simplest sense, is a movement in which the production asks the audience not to suspend their disbelief but face the production as it is, a theatrical play/musical. It's less

Brecht Pieces to Revive  Dec 26 2019, 01:09:53 PM

'Mother Courage' is a classic Brecht piece, I agree that a revival is very much due!

Brecht Pieces to Revive  Dec 26 2019, 11:25:53 AM

I'm a huge fan of Bertolt Brecht, his shows and the concept of Epic Theatre! I could be wrong, but it seems to have been a while since we've had a Brecht piece on Broadway/Off-Broadway and I, personally, would love to see one revived!

'The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui' is one I'd like to see!

Any Brecht fans want to throw in their thoughts?
