re: Condolences to Shoshana Bean  May 1 2006, 01:30:32 PM
Wow... Thats awful. It hurts so much to lose someone you love, just like that...

Condolences and love to her, her family, and Tyler's family.

re: Rodney To to be on CONVICTION 3/24  Mar 22 2006, 09:16:12 PM
Well after hearing Emcee talk about what a good actor he was, I want to see him for that reason. Thats just me, though.

I'll have to tape it, though, cause I'm working tech for a show at school.

re: RENT w/The 'Rents  Mar 11 2006, 11:11:24 PM
My mom saw it and enjoyed it immensely- she had heard most of the OBC recording and said she'd definitely see it again. Thats a high compliment coming from her- she hates seeing movies multiple times.

The Benny character, " a evil sell-out conservative who only cares about big buisness and money", is a gross generalization of conservatives and is just as offensive as some of the stereotypes the movie is against.

I can see why some people think this. With the excepti

YAY DAPHNE!

I love Daphne... she puts so much into her performances.

re: Aida  Mar 1 2006, 04:30:27 PM
Wouldn't be the first time.

Haha, no, wouldn't be.

re: Aida  Feb 28 2006, 10:08:17 PM
No, Nubia and Ethiopia are not the same country.

Well then the packet of info they gave the actors was incorrect.

A high school near me did a basically all-white production of Aida last year and it was quite honestly one of the most insulting things I've ever seen.

Live in suburban Chicago? A school near here did Aida and I heard it was incredibly awful and Radames was doing some weird almost ballet like thing through the entire song "Like Father,

homemade shirts that say "break a rib!" on the back of them

*wince* Now THAT pains me.

I'm a bit of bum in some aspect, as I'm always in denim. It works in my book, a nice top and some ass flattering jeans.

Well some denim can BE dressy casual *noddles*

re: Idina Fans Wearing Red Track Suits  Feb 27 2006, 09:58:45 PM
I'm not going to wear a formal cocktail dress and be uncomfortable but I think it's best to go with some kind of nice casual look.

Same for me, I usually wear black dress pants, on occasion a nice colored tshirt, and a nice jacket. Nothing too fancy but nice enough. Nothing I wouldn't wear on a normal basis but not jeans.

Although the lottery is another story. And I would be more likely to wear a show shirt to say, RENT, but still with the nice pants... but thats just

Aida's-friend-that-starts-with-an-N-but-I-can't-spell-it-to-save-my-life could've been great supporting roles.

As said, it was Nehebka. Our Nehebka rocked... she had the most bloodcurdling scream XD

I thought Amneris' top note was a F# in Strongest Suit? Or maybe the vocal selections are in a different key.

Must be different keys, because the books from MTI had that and the Dance of the Robe end note were A-flats... although my brain might jus

re: Idina Fans Wearing Red Track Suits  Feb 27 2006, 09:30:21 PM
All I have to do is mention that I love Idina online and people automatically peg me as a 12 year old frothing idiot whose 3 broadway shows (and ONLY three) are Wicked, Rent, and maybe Avenue Q if I've really branched out. I hate that. But can I blame them?

I know the feeling. People hear I'm an Anthony Rapp fan and automatically assume its because of RENT. I didn't find out about RENT till later.

Am I the only one who dresses in dressy casual when I go to th

re: Aida  Feb 27 2006, 03:34:04 PM
You know, its funny, I thought the character Mereb was okay, he had an important part and whatnot, but he never really stood out to me until I saw my friend Alex play him. He was absolutely brilliant and I actually really liked his performance more than Damian Perkins'... his Mereb was so much richer and at one point he played it as if Mereb could have even fallen in love with Aida.
re: Where does Mark go??? (RENT)  Feb 26 2006, 11:22:45 PM
He goes to help Maureen with the promise of checking up on Roger later. In the song before Angel has just started helping Collins, so its very plausible that Mark ran into them just outside the building.

At the beginning of Today 4 U, Mark simply says "Enter Tom Collins". Its possible he came in a few steps before Collins, if he had indeed run into him on the street. He also sings along with him with whats in the pickle tub.

However, the whole thing with Angel entering

re: Aida  Feb 26 2006, 11:17:47 PM
Have any regional theaters tried to color-blind cast Aida yet?

I'm wondering how the show would work with a white Aida.

Our Aida was Greek, so she had an olive skin tone. She sometimes didn't have the raw power of some Aidas or even our Amneris, but she put a lot of heart into the role and had good chemistry with our Radames.

re: WICKED SONGS-- By Other Artists....  Feb 26 2006, 09:59:24 PM
Its technically by a Wicked artist but theres an audio of Idina singing a song called 'Making Good', which was cut and replaced with 'The Wizard and I'.
re: Aida  Feb 26 2006, 09:57:20 PM
I would just give Aida the edge simply because she has to sing more, so you need to have the chops and stamina to do it.

A definite good point. With Amneris you just need the stamina to hold your voice way up there for Strongest Suit and then you get decent enough breaks inbetween songs. Aida, being the title role, is one after another after another.

re: Aida  Feb 26 2006, 09:33:49 PM
So I'd say Aida is a better singing role if you've got the chops

Actually, Amneris can be really demanding, too. In both cases you have to at least be able to belt an A-flat, and with Strongest Suit, you have to do it over and over and over and have extremely good breath control at the end, to hit the notes.

With Aida, you also have to have the strong voice and breath control, so I personally think they're about even when it comes to singing.

Of course, I'

re: Aida  Feb 26 2006, 08:57:36 PM
But if you have to pick one, it is Aida. She is the love story.

And the title.

If it were me, I'd play Amneris. Her character has a lot of different emotional layers, plus great songs and costumes.

re: Rent DVD-Sound Quality?  Feb 24 2006, 08:49:33 PM
I'm pretty sure my problem is due to either my TV or DVD player, but during "Over The Moon" and the scene where Mark fixes the mic and says "And we're patched." there is no echo from the microphone.

No, its not your TV. I knew I wouldn't be able to go to the bank and get money to buy the dvd because my rehearsals are during bank hours, so I rented a copy, and I noticed when Maureen is trying to stop the riot, I wasn't hearing any echo whatsoever. So I rewound as far as 'par
