BCEFA FLEA MARKET COLLECTORS UNITE!!  Sep 24 2017, 04:01:57 PM

I've attended the Flea Market 7 or 8 times now and this was probably my least favorite year (with the exception of the horrific Birdland edition). I used to buy a lot of Playbills, but the boxes were now continually swamped. I also saw several tables where dozens of Playbills had landed on the floor. Would be cool if people handled all Playbills with care and not just the ones they're interested in.

Anyhow, these are the items I bought:

What Are Five Broadway Songs Guaranteed to Make You Cry?  Sep 19 2017, 09:12:38 AM

1. I'll Be Here - Ordinary Days (sorry, that's an Off Broadway one)

2. Our Children - Ragtime (There they stand, making footprints in the sand... ahhhh...)

3. How Could I Ever Know - The Secret Garden

4. Finale - In The Heights (The hydrants are open, cool breezes blow... please hand me a tissue)

5. Do You Hear The People Sing? (Reprise) - Les Misérables

Which shows are these from?  Sep 24 2013, 11:43:37 PM
Thanks for your help, everyone! As to the feather: I think I remember which show it's from! I believe it's from the pillow fight scene in The Mountaintop.

Since I saw The Mountaintop and Follies during the same trip, it's quite possible that the rose petals are indeed from Follies.

I had a look at the list of shows that I saw during that period and removed the ones where these goodies are definitely not from. Ended up with this list (unless I overlooked something):

Mamma Mia
The Story Of My Life
West Side Story
Shrek The Musical
Billy Elliot
9 to 5: The Musical
La Cage Aux Folles
Bye Bye Birdie
Hair
Finian's Rainbow
A Little Night Music
The Miracle Worker
Promises, Promises
Lend Me A Tenor
Sondheim On Sondhei

This may be a bit of a weird question, but oh well, it's worth a shot...

Does anyone know from which shows these are? Whenever something is blown into the audience or if something falls from the sky, I take one of those goodies with me as a memento (unless it's a Spider-Man actor). I usually label them - no kidding - but now I found these three unlabeled ones and I really can't remember which shows had these.

They're definitely from a NY show, most likely Broadway, that played anywhere between 2009 and 2012. The red one is definitely not from First Date. I keep thinking Follies for the pink and / or red ones but I'm not sure. The feather, I have no idea at all.

Major props to anyone who can help me out!

The 2013 Flea Market Thread  Sep 23 2013, 06:20:41 AM
I flew in from Belgium especially for the Flea Market (6th year in a row) and didn't regret it at all. Just wish it was easier to transport posters, they're too sturdy to roll them up. Anyway, these are the goodies I found...

Enron ($10)
Curtains ($7.50)
Sting event that I can't remember the name of right now ($15)
All Shook Up ($7.50)

Weather Not Looking Good For Broadway Flea Market  Sep 15 2013, 12:42:17 PM
I think it was about three years ago that - the evening before the Flea Market - they forecasted rain pretty much all day... In the end, it didn't rain at all. So you never know.

On a sidenote: if there's heavy rain, I think the Marriott Marquis could easily make a few conference rooms available or even the large open space on the second floor. Would be ten times better than the Roseland Ballroom.

Disney's Jungle Book starts previews today at Goodman Theatre in Chicago  Jun 24 2013, 01:38:04 PM
Do they use a standard Playbill? Would anyone - who has one - be willing to scan the cover?
Who will replace Jane Lynch?  Jun 16 2013, 10:54:07 AM
Lynch is contracted until mid July; I highly doubt that they will close during the Summer holidays when there are plenty of tourists around. Tourists for whom Broadway = shows like Phantom, Chicago, Mamma Mia, Annie,...
Who will replace John Lloyd Young?  Jun 14 2013, 02:00:43 PM
Have they already announced when he's leaving?

I'm very short on cash myself right now, otherwise I'd definitely be interested. But I just wanted to give you a thumbs up, because that's a very nice collection of windowcards at fair prices. Hope you can find good homes for them!

Just for comparison, this is the Playbill of the San Diego run.

Is Les Miserables popular in France?  Feb 27 2013, 01:18:40 PM
I'm a Belgian, currently living in France (45 minutes from Paris)... I went to see the subtitled English version of Les Mis last week and when I left the theatre, I heard a French guy complaining to his girlfriend about how boring and overly dramatic it was. I suspect one of the reasons it was not at all what he expected, is because here in France, a 'musical' is actually called a 'comédie musicale'.

So people who are not very familiar with musical theatre, its history etc. do not expe

2012 Broadway Flea Market Thread  Sep 23 2012, 08:05:31 PM
Not the best Flea Market ever, but there were still some nice bargains to be had... As usual, I got a load of Playbills for my collection. Also some cheap programs (How to Succeed, Hugh Jackman, Follies, Anything Goes,...) and scripts (Scottsboro Boys, BoM, Master Class,...). Props are always some of my favorite items, this year I got a broken record from Memphis and sheet music from Phantom.

At the Phantom table, I also found a ziplock bag with a blue How to Succeed bowtie for $20. The lady claimed that it was used in the show. I'm entirely sure about that, but I will just imagine that it was indeed worn by Dan Radcliffe before they started auctioning off those bowties...

High Fidelity Playbill  Feb 22 2012, 02:51:58 PM
Thanks so much for all the replies, everyone. I'm sure CapnHook is right about the origin of the mysterious Playbill. Too bad that the show closed so early, but I guess different artwork wouldn't have saved the show from closing. It's just interesting that Playbill decided to include it in their Playbill Vault.
