10 dollar tix for SoS and ER  May 27 2010, 06:13:58 PM
Thanks, muscle! Great shows, both.
BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON- Coming to Broadway?  May 27 2010, 09:13:16 AM
People said the same thing about IN THE HEIGHTS, NEXT TO NORMAL, SPRING AWAKENING, AVENUE Q, and SPELLING BEE -- all of which came to Broadway, won multiple Tony Awards, and recouped their investments.

(For the record, I didn't particularly like BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, but I think the argument of "this show screams Off-Broadway" and therefore wouldn't succeed on Broadway doesn't hold up anymore, as so many shows have proven it to be wrong.)

BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON- Coming to Broadway?  May 27 2010, 06:49:16 AM
As dramamama said, it's not selling well at all. Its final extension is living on TDF, for that small little space, no less. Not that that's any indication of how it would do on Broadway. IN THE HEIGHTS did not sell out at 37 Arts when it played there, but it came to Broadway, recouped, won the Tony for Best Musical, and has been playing for more than two years at the Rodgers.
running time FENCES  May 26 2010, 05:34:45 PM
2 hours and 30 minutes with one 15 minute intermission (per Telecharge).
Drama League Winners- SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM wins Best Musical  May 22 2010, 06:25:12 AM
I don't think it's fair to say Molina has locked up the Tony race. Drama League voters are anyone, like you or me, who pay a yearly due for their membership and voting rights. Essentially anyone with a wallet can vote for the Drama League Awards. Not the case with the ability to be a Tony voter.
ANGELS IN AMERICA at Signature  May 7 2010, 09:28:02 AM
I did not see Marcia Gay Harden in the original, so I cannot speak for her portrayal of Harper.

However, for those who feel Zoe Kazan always gives pretty much the same performance no matter what role she is playing (and I tend to agree with that assessment), I would actually say the same thing about Mary-Louise Parker, who was brilliant as Harper on in the TV movie.

Parker's performances are almost always a variation on the same character, as has been the case with Kazan,

ENRON has no student/rush tix, right?  May 6 2010, 07:32:39 PM
Right. But it is on TDF, if you have that.
Rush for Fences?  May 6 2010, 01:27:08 PM
While we're here, and I can't seem to find an existing thread through the now defunct search function, does anyone know if COME FLY AWAY has a rush policy? Thanks in advance.
Encores! Summer Stars?  May 5 2010, 04:12:29 PM
No Summer Stars series this summer, as City Center will be undergoing construction during that time.
Riedel on the Tony nominations....  May 5 2010, 05:50:40 AM
Well, to be fair, I do like IN THE HEIGHTS, and I agree with you that its creators set out to do something different, and in my opinion, succeeded. I don't begrudge their success with the show. However, I felt that PASSING STRANGE was the much more groundbreaking piece of theatre that season, and therefore the "best musical."
Riedel on the Tony nominations....  May 5 2010, 04:33:20 AM
"Memphis" enters the race with a solid voting bloc behind it. "Fela!" -- which would have had the press on its side -- doesn't. If it loses to "Memphis," the Tonys really will be a sham."

He said this a few years ago with if IN THE HEIGHTS were to beat PASSING STRANGE -- and he was right.

We all know the Tonys are a sham. It's nothing new, Riedel.

ENRON to close 5/9  May 5 2010, 04:24:18 AM
Hun, chill. I was only expressing my opinion. I think what ultimately did the show in was the fact that it was not nominated for Best Play (combined with a negative review from the Times).

Deep breath now.

ENRON to close 5/9  May 4 2010, 07:38:45 PM
I think the topic just hit too close to home for American audiences.

I don't think it was that at all. I think it was just a poorly conceived piece of theatre. The show was much too ambitious -- too many bells and whistles, with a complete disregard for the talented human beings up on that stage attempting to tell a story.

CONGRATULATIONS, JAN MAXWELL!!!  May 4 2010, 11:56:56 AM
Couldn't agree more! HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Maxwell, a true asset to the NY theatre community. SO PLEASED to see her receive a nomination for each of her terrific performances this season. She is a force of nature, and I look forward to seeing both of her acceptance speeches.
Daniel Radcliffe to Return to Broadway in HOW TO SUCCEED... Spring 2011  Apr 15 2010, 11:44:16 PM
That's a great suggestion, morosco.
Daniel Radcliffe to Return to Broadway in HOW TO SUCCEED... Spring 2011  Apr 15 2010, 10:11:37 PM
Sarah Jessica Parker cannot sing. Not even close to Megan Mullally's divine vocals as Rosemary. The only reason they brought in SJP was because she and Broderick were dating at the time and the producers hoped that the "cuteness" factor of real life sweethearts playing opposite one another would sell tickets.
Daniel Radcliffe to Return to Broadway in HOW TO SUCCEED... Spring 2011  Apr 15 2010, 06:14:17 PM
I would love to see Ramona Mallory as Rosemary. She would be adorable.
Isherwood Fesses Up To Being The "Odd-Man-Out" In His Dislike For TENOR  Apr 15 2010, 01:41:45 PM

Is 'Love, Loss, and What I Wore' appropriate for children?  Apr 11 2010, 09:12:04 AM
I've seen the show twice (two different casts). It is a total treat from start to finish. As a man, I was laughing just as much as the women around me. I would say it's most definitely appropriate for a 13 year old. The F-word is used once, and one actress has a short monologue that mentions a rape, but aside from that, it is mostly a funny, moving evening of theatre.
Jan Maxwell got the Tony in her bag?  Apr 10 2010, 11:32:32 AM
"Both Johansson and Hecht were above the title."

Only Johansson & Schreiber were above the title.

Jordan, on the title page inside my Playbill, Hecht is above the title along with Schreiber and Johansson.
