Theatre Tuscaloosa will present Yazmina Reza's God of Carnage October 19-28, 2018 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

In this three-time 2009 Tony-award winner, a playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses tensions emerge and the gloves come off leaving the couples with little more than just their dedicated principles in tatters. This comedic play will take audiences on an entertaining journey through the dark side of parenthood.

"'He said.... She said' is complicated enough when it is just between two people. What if you had two couples (4 parents) gathered in a room to discuss an altercation between their 11-year-old sons?," said Charles Prosser, director. "Can two educated, sophisticated, modern couples have a civilized conversation about their dueling offspring? Will the couples have one another's back? What is calfouti anyway? For the answers to these and many other questions, come see God of Carnage."

The cast features Steven Yates, Jennifer Guffin, Bryne Zuege and Kasey Kauffman. The production team includes Ashlyn Lambert, stage manager; Wheeler Kincaid, scenic designer; John Hisey, lighting designer; and Jeanette Waterman, costume designer.

Theatre Tuscaloosa's 2018-19 season is supported by Shelton State Community College, the City of Tuscaloosa, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc., WVUA23, and Tuscaloosa Radio.

God of Carnage will be presented October 19-28, 2018 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Fridays, and Saturday, October 20. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays, Wednesday, and Saturday, October 27. A pay-what-you-can final dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m., proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Tickets are $14 for students and children, $17 for seniors, Shelton State employees, and members of the military, and $19 for adults. Special pricing is available in advance for groups of 10 or more.

This show is intended for mature audiences.

Also, God of Carnage will be Theatre Tuscaloosa's entry for the Alabama Community Theatre Festival to be hosted November 2-4 in the Bean-Brown Theatre by the Alabama Conference of Theatre and Theatre Tuscaloosa. If the show wins the competition, it will advance to the Southeastern Theatre Conference regional festival held February 27-March 2, 2019 in Knoxville, TN. If the show advances at the regional level, it will compete at the national festival in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, June 18.
