Rapid Lemon Productions, in association with Spotlight UB, presents Variations on Blame at the Wright Theatre, University of Baltimore. This stage production of the 12th annual Variations Project is a collection of world premiere ten-minute plays by authors from the Washington-Baltimore area.

Performances will be September 9 at 8:00pm, September 10 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm, September 13 at 2:00pm, September 15 at 8:00pm, September 16 at 8:00pm, and September 17 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm. Tickets are General Admission at $20, or $10 for University of Baltimore students with ID.

Variations on Blame is directed by Lance Bankerd, and consists of the following short plays which were written for the project based on source material developed at the annual Variations Party in April 2016:

“I Remember” by Kevin J. Costa, PhD
“Forever to Go” by Shelby Chapman
“Baby’s Breath Never Dies” by Michal Roxie Johnson
“Affluenza” by Paddy O’Carroll

The 2016 theme of Blame was chosen by audience vote during performances of 2015’s Variations on Family. Audiences who attend Variations on Blame will vote to select the theme for the 2017 Variations Project.

The Variations Project was founded in 2005 by Run of the Mill Theater and has produced a collection of new short works each year since. It was named Outstanding Experimental Production by the Greater Baltimore Theater Awards and Best Production by City Paper. 2016 marks the second Variations Project under the direction of Rapid Lemon Productions and the first to be presented at the Wright Theatre.

Rapid Lemon Productions was founded in 2012 as an independent theater company in the Baltimore/Washington area whose mission is to develop and present new, local work for the stage. Its prior productions have appeared at Woolly Mammoth and THEARC in Washington, and at the Maryland Institute College of Art and Theatre Project in Baltimore.

As part of the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences, Spotlight UB is pleased to present readings, theatrical productions, concerts and integrated arts performances. Spotlight regularly attaches programming to curriculum with learning goals of arts appreciation and increased reading comprehension.
