Following a sold-out run of The 39 Steps, The Collaborative Theatre Co. announces their next co-production: The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance. Winner of a Tony, Drama Desk, and New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, The Elephant Man is based on the life of Englishman John Merrick. A horribly deformed young man living in 19th Century London, Merrick becomes the star freak attraction in traveling side shows. After being discovered abandoned and helpless, he is admitted to London's prestigious Whitechapel Hospital. Under the care of celebrated young physician Frederick Treves, Merrick is introduced to London society and slowly evolves from an object of pity to an urbane and witty favorite of the aristocracy and literati only to be denied his ultimate dream: to become a man like any other.

Brimming with wit and humanity, the play brings a modern and poetic touch to a Victorian-era story. Famously staged as a star vehicle for David Bowie and, more recently, Bradley Cooper, the play offers an intense physical challenge to the actor portraying Merrick. In this tradition, Baltimore actor Grayson Owen will perform the role solely relying on physicality, without the aid of prostheses or makeup effects. The supporting cast includes Sean Coe as Dr. Frederick Treves, local actor and playwright Mark Scharf as Carr Gomm, D.C.-based actor Frank Mancino as Ross, model and actress Aladrian Wetzel as Mrs. Kendal, UMBC acting student Elizabeth Ung as Nurse Sandwich, and CCBC Essex student Darius Foreman in multiple roles.

Produced in cooperation with and performing at Fells Point Corner Theatre (251 South Ann Street, Baltimore, MD 21231), the production premiers on September 2, 2016 and closes October 2, 2016. Throughout the run, The Collaborative Theatre Co. will present the following special events:
