The Baltimore Playwrights Festival (www.baltplayfest.org) is proud to announce that one of its alumni, Paula Stone, will receive an independent production of her play Kitchen Sink at Church Hill Theater, 103 Walnut Street, Church Hill, Maryland, 21623 for a limited engagement, January 13–15, 2012.

The one-act version of Kitchen Sink was chosen for a public reading in the 2008-2009 Baltimore Playwright's Festival, and went on to win first-prize (one-act category) in the Brevard Little Theatre's 6th Annual New Play Competition, was a finalist in the 33rd Annual National One-Act Playwriting Competition sponsored by the Dubuque Fine Arts Players, and was a semifinalist in the 2011 Silver Spring Stage One-Act Festival. Since then Ms. Stone has redeveloped the script into a full-length play that tells the story of Francine, who is selling the contents of her kitchen at a yard sale. Each item has a story, and like the layers of an onion, each story gives us insight into Francine's life.

Paula Stone has returned to her love of creative writing since retiring from her career in technology policy and systems engineering. Her poignant comedies about everyday life have been selected for numerous theater festivals, as well as being published in print and broadcast over the radio. She credits the Baltimore Playwrights Festival with encouraging her to press on with the development of Kitchen Sink into its present form.

Church Hill Theater's production will be directed by Kate Reckner, an award-winning television and film producer who directed the original reading for the Baltimore Playwrights Festival, and will star Dianne Hood, a talented local actress seen in last year's The Year of Magical Thinking at The Strand Theater. Tickets to the event and more information can be found at http://www.churchhilltheatre.org.

The Baltimore Playwrights Festival has presented 273 scripts by 165 playwrights, produced by 25 different companies, over the past 30 Years. Our mission is to provide an environment that nurtures the talents of Maryland and DC playwrights through public readings, discussions, critiques and workshopping of new plays. Our summer season is devoted to the presentation of these newly developed works in cooperation with local area theaters. Further information can be found at www.baltplayfest.org.
