Single Carrot Theatre Presents FOOT OF WATER, Now thru 7/8

Single Carrot Theatre closes it's 5th season with an exploration of the mythology and mystery of sexuality from the award-winning ensemble that brought you Sects and Violins, Slampooned! and Illuminoctem.

Mythology, ritual, and an in-depth look at sexuality take center stage in Single Carrot Theatre's latest offering. Foot of Water is nearly a year in the making. The company first began gathering to discuss concepts for both the subject and the style in August of last year. Discussions and exercises were the cornerstones of the early rehearsals, but the trajectory of the piece changed course when the company embarked on a three-day workshop led by Double Edge Theatre, a largely physically- based theatre from Ashfield, Massachusetts. The workshop was highly influenced by the teachings of Grotowski, and offered both a compliment and an antidote to the verbal, idea-based rehearsals held in the fall. "These Grotowskian trainings are physical exercises that exhaust the performer and give way to uninhibited improvisation, through which performers create character, story, and entirely new worlds", said Foot of Water director Ben Hoover. "Much, if not all of Foot of Water, is sourced from these trainings. Out of these one of these trainings came the idea of ritual." The result is a production packed with physicality, percussion, poetry and, of-course, a coming-of-age sexual awakening.
