The Ruxton Players, now in their ninth decade at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1401 Carrollton Avenue in Towson, will present The Hasty Heart by John Patrick, November 11 - 13 and 18 - 20, 2011. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 3 PM.
Based on the real-life World War II experiences of its Pulitzer Prize-winning author, The Hasty Heart tells the heartwarming, inspiring, and often disarmingly funny story of an angry young Scottish soldier facing certain death, but finding a deeper friendship than he has ever known, thanks to the ragtag band of fellow patients who share his final days. As Talkin' Broadway said of a recent off-Broadway revival of the play, "Patrick's insights about what gives our lives meaning remain timely today, coming from the heart, and touching it as well."
The play is directed by Bill Kamberger, who has been named "Baltimore's Best Stage Director" by the City Paper. It features a distinguished cast of Baltimore theater veterans, including Morgan Stanton, Kara Turner, Mike Ware, Rodney Bonds, Paul Ballard, Micah Chalmer, John Wright, Donnie Lewis, and Brian McDonnell.
Tickets are $15, and can be reserved by calling 410-823-0122. Veterans who bring a memento of their service will receive a discounted admission price of $7.50 on November 11, and $12 at all other times. World War II veterans will be admitted free at all performances.
