Milburn Stone Theatre to Kick Off 2014 with Ira Levin's DEATHTRAP!, Begin. 1/17

The Milburn Stone Theatre begins 2014 with one of the longest running broadway plays of all time, Ira Levin's DEATHTRAP! Levin, author of such notable classic stories of horror and suspense as Rosemary's Baby, The Boys From Brazil and The Stepford Wives won his second Edgar award (an award presented to notable mystery and suspense writers, named after Edgar Allen Poe) with DEATHTRAP!

DEATHTRAP! is the MST main stage directorial debut for Andrew John Mitchell, who has previously directed for the Chapel Street Players in Newark, Philadelphia Primary Stages, e-52 Student Theatre, along with a few Emerging Artists pieces for MST. "DEATHTRAP is one of the greatest thrillers in Modern American Theatre, and I'm excited to help bring this show to life at the Milburn Stone Theatre with a large, beautiful set and one of the most talented group of actors i've ever had the privilege to work with" says Mitchell, who also runs Marketing for the theatre as well, "The plot is full of these wonderful twists and turns and once you think you've figured out the plot it quickly changes direction again. it's a story that's filled to the brim with danger, suspense, wit and comedy"

DEATHTRAP! is the story of Sidney Bruhl, a once famous but washed up old writer of classic Broadway thrillers. Once a household name, he now makes the bulk of his money teaching thriller writing seminars to hopeful twerps. However, one of his students, Clifford Anderson, has written a powerful and exciting new play likely to revive the great era of the Broadway thriller. "Deathtrap: a thriller in two acts" is a script to die for... or to kill! Sidney plots to kill Clifford for the script when suddenly events in the play come true before your very eyes! Who will survive? DEATHTRAP's original broadway run began February 26th, 1978 and closed June 13th, 1982 after 1,793 performances. Marian Seldes appeared in every performance of DEATHTRAP! as "Myra Bruhl" earning her praise and a mention in the Gunless book of world records for "most durable actress."DEATHTRAP! was nominated for a Tony Award in 1978 for Best Play.

DEATHTRAP! stars MST perennial favorite, Mike Ware (Dinner with Friends, Dead Man's Cellphone) as Sidney Bruhl, Ryan Milliner (True West, 1776) as Clifford Anderson, Melanie Bishop (Dinner with Friends, As You Like It) as Myra Bruhl, Justine Quirk (It's A Wonderful Life) as Helga Ten Dorp, and the MST debut of veteran Delaware actor Daniel Tucker as Porter. DEATHTRAP! features set and lighting design by MST's Producing Artistic Director S. Lee Lewis and is stage managed by MST's Production Manager, Serenity Rowland.
