Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) annual Retro Prom is returning for the twelfth straight year this April 2nd. The Frederick non-profit theater company's annual fundraiser is a groovy night when attendees break out the dusty prom dresses and platform shoes to go "Back to the Future" to show dazzling displays of retro attire from decades past. The idea of "prom attire" has metamorphosed through the years as disco queens, flower children, flappers and greasers have rubbed elbows with zombies and pontiffs. If your zoot suit or bell bottoms don't win you the best-dressed honor you can still pick up a prize with your "Footloose" moves in the dance-off with music compliments of Bill Izer of Wizer Productions. The evening will also feature Wegmans catering, a cash bar, prom photos, a late night pizza party and a silent auction. The nostalgic fun will take place at the Talley Recreation Center (121 N. Bentz St. Frederick) from 7-11:30 p.m. kicking off with Happy Hour from 7-8 p.m., featuring half priced drinks.

The silent auction benefiting the nonprofit will include vacation stays, theatre tickets and original artwork from local artists. It will also feature a VIP package to a Redskins home game, vehicle maintenance gift card from Lube Center, ski packages from Whitetail Resort and Liberty Mountain Resort, vacation getaways in West Virginia and South Carolina and items from local businesses including Expanding Heart Center, Peggi Redding (massage therapist), Venus on the Half Shell, Volt, Family Meal, Vinyl Acres, and Maven Beauty Bar.

Tickets or tables may be purchased online at marylandensemble.org, by phone at (301) 694-4744 or in person at the MET box office. Tables must be reserved by March 28th. All tickets are $40 at the door or two tickets can be purchased in advance for $70. VIP tables for four to eight people ($200-$400) are available to be reserved in advance and include a sign with the party's name and a bottle of champagne on ice. There will also be standing high-top tables and limited non-table seating for those just purchasing individual tickets. This year's Retro Prom is proud to be sponsored by Yelp and proceeds from the event will benefit Maryland Ensemble Theatre, Frederick's largest producing non-profit theater company. MET has enriched and entertained more than half a million people since 1993. Every year the MET produces thought-provoking theatre, fun family entertainment, Sketch Comedy and Improvisation, theatre camps and classes, artist residency programs for public schools, and dozens of special events.
