Saturday, January 30 is Family Fun Day at Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET). Escape the snow with a fun filled day of free activities in downtown Frederick. A day for kids of all ages to come to the theater for arts and crafts, circus games, face painting, cupcake decorating, and improv workshops for both kids and teens. This day of free activities celebrating the 2016 winter semester of the Ensemble School will also include story time with some of the MET's most memorable characters, Junie B. Jones and The Cat in the Hat, as well as an appearance by Spiderman.

"We love to bring excitement for the arts to the children in the community in so many ways," said the event's coordinator, Ensemble Member Lia Seltzer. "There is so much that we offer including the family theater, camps, classes, after school programs, story times, and our community outreach productions. The MET is a great resource for families and this event will highlight that."

Family Fun Day will run from 10am to 5pm at MET located at 31 W Patrick Street in the historic FSK Hotel. Cat in the Hat will lead story-time at 11am and Junie B Jones will follow at 3pm. Spiderman will be on hand from 2:30-4:30 for pictures and and more. Also that day the Fun Company's production of James and the Giant Peach will have its inaugural performance at 1:30pm. James and the Giant Peach is a ticketed event and admission is $14. It's a full day of fun at MET as later in the evening at 8pm MET's resident improv troupe, The Comedy Pigs, will present an all new sketch show. Tickets to that show are also $14.

Family Fun Day is in honor of the Ensemble School's new semester of classes so staff will be on hand if you want to sign up for classes, talk with instructors or just tour the space. The MET's diverse and exciting 12-week semester begins February 8th, 2016. Classes are for students ranging from 7 years old to adults, and include Musical Theater Workshop, Performance Skills, Teen Improv, Adult Scene Study and more. Taught by professional actors and directors, aspiring and experienced actors receive fundamental and advanced instruction with personal attention in an intimate class setting.
