Laurel Mill Playhouse presents ProtoStars, an exciting youth theater program targeted at ages 6-16. The program is designed to foster the various talents of our community's young people to develop the Stars of our theater, today and forward. Our commitment to expose young people to all aspects of theater - the creative, the technical, even the business - will enable the ProtoStars to find their niche at LMP or wherever they go to practice their craft, whatever it may be.

The ProtoStars program kicks off with an open audition for all ages (ages 6-16 for ProtoStars and anyone of any age to show their talents to LMP directors for future casting) on July 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45a.m. on the LMP stage. The ProtoStars program will commence on August 3 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. for the youth who are admitted to the program. Casting for a number of "episodic" theater pieces will be determined at this first meeting. Those cast in the episodes will be asked to attend rehearsals on Saturdays from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. from August 10 through September 14 and will be required to commit to technical and final rehearsals the week of September 16 through 21 (schedule to be determined). The ProtoStars will present a Preview of the episodes on September 21 and 22 and will open with a full production on Saturday, September 28. (Note: there is no charge for the ProtoStars program, if admitted, but some incidental costs may be incurred for things like costumes, make-up, etc.)

The ProtoStars will continue to stage episodes (as well as cast and stage new and different episodes) in the future, with scheduling and casting to be determined. LMP strives to accumulate a library of talented young people who will be given opportunities throughout the theater - on stage and off - as much as they choose to participate. We are seeking enthusiasm, personality, determination, bravery, and people who work hard and are fun to work with.

If you can perform magic, sing a tune, tell a joke, make a mix tape, build and paint stuff, write, smile, or fly, we want to meet you. If you've ever wanted to share your gifts with an audience - being in front them or making their eyes dance with lights and special effects, come see us on July 27 and maybe, just maybe, you'll shine like one of the ProtoStars.
