Hot off of the heels of its successful Humana Festival premiere, Jen Silverman's hilarious hit play The Roommate will make its East Coast debut at Baltimore's Everyman Theatre starting October 26th. The production, directed by Everyman's Artistic Associate Johanna Gruenhut, will feature two of the theatre's Resident Company Members, Deborah Hazlett and Beth Hylton as the roommates. The production will run from October 26th through November 27th.

The Roommate is a hilarious, coming-of-age story about two middle-aged women trying to start their lives over. When Sharon, a lonely Iowa divorcee, seeks a roommate and a change of pace in her quiet life, she meets Robyn, a mysterious vegan transplant from the Bronx whose secret past threatens to ignite Susan's small world. Both women's mismatched personalities and hidden talents erupt to reveal hysterical and inadvertent consequences.

"Jen Silverman is one of the hottest new voices in the American theatre," said Everyman Theatre's Founding Artistic Director Vincent Lancisi. "I saw The Roommate at the Humana Festival in 2015 and knew it was something that we just had to produce. What Jen saw was a lack of representation of middle-aged women on our American stages, and she took that opportunity to create a unique story with two multi-dimensional, fully realized and FUNNY women. These are two powerhouse performances by two of our Resident Company Members - I can't wait for audiences who saw them play Linda Loman and Blanche DuBois last season get the chance to see them play Sharon and Robyn. Talk about transformation!"

Playwright Jen Silverman is a member of New Dramatists and has developed work with the O'Neill, Williamstown, New York Theatre Workshop, Playpenn, Portland Center Stage and more. A hot playwright seen at both the 2015 and 2016 Humana Festivals, Ms. Silverman has a two-book deal with Random House for a collection of stories and a novel. Her plays, including Phoebe in Winter, The Moors, Crane Story, and Wondrous Strange, are being performed across the country. Earlier this fall, Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Boops made its world premiere at DC's Woolly Mammoth Theatre. Actress Beth Hylton was also featured in this cast.

Ms. Hylton will be playing Robyn the mysterious vegan from The Bronx. She was featured prominently in The Great American Rep at Everyman as Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire. She also appeared as Rosemary in Outside Mullingar, Moira in Deathtrap, Elvira in Blithe Spirit among others.

Deborah Hazlett, who was seen in last season's Great American Rep as Linda Loman in Death of a Salesman, will play the role of Sharon, a lonely Iowa divorcee, seeking a roommate and a change of pace in her every day life. This is Ms. Hazlett's 20th season as a Resident Company Member with Everyman. Some of her most memorable performances include roles Hedda Gabler, Proof, Uncle Vanya, The Cherry Orchard, and August: Osage County.

Ms. Hylton and Ms. Hazlett have worked together on Everyman productions Deathtrap, August: Osage County and All My Sons. Ms. Hylton will also be seen with Ms. Hazlett in Noises Off later this season at Everyman.

The Roommate marks Artistic Associate Johanna Gruenhut's directorial debut at Everyman Theatre. Ms. Gruenhut joined the Everyman staff during the 2015/2016 season. In addition to directing The Roommate, Ms. Gruenhut is also producing the popular Salon Series: Women's Voices, along with the women of the Resident Company. Outside of Everyman, Ms. Gruenhut has directed at theatres including The Public, the NY International Fringe Festival, Studio Theatre, Theater J and Center Stage. Ms. Gruenhut will also be directing the reading of Top Girls at the Salon Series on Monday, October 31st. Ms. Gruenhut will also be directing Polly Stenham's That Face at Center Stage this coming spring.
