Imagination Stage's Student Performance Ensemble Presents THE SECRET IN THE WINGS

Imagination Stage's Performance Ensemble will perform The Secret in the Wings, by Mary Zimmerman, March 29-31, 2019 in the Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Theatre.

The Secret in the Wings runs in Imagination Stage's Lerner Family Theatre March 29-30, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. and March 31, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 per person, and may be purchased online at imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301-280-1660.

"This production takes us on a journey through six lesser known fairytales - deconstructing not just their morals but the structure of the stories themselves. Themes are explored as they once were, even the moments that are grotesque or taboo," says Director Nikki Kaplan, who also serves as Associate Director of Education at Imagination Stage. "I came to this script interested in the principle of arming our young people with knowledge, skill, and yes, a little fear. Fear that things won't always go their way, fear that there are people out there who don't have the best of intentions, fear that they might not achieve everything they want - at least not without hard work, patience, and sometimes disappointment. Armed with this realistic perception of life, we can then feel confident sending them into the world, ready to brave whatever challenges they may face and knowing they have the power to find a solution."

The IStage Performance Ensemble (ISPE) gives teen performers with intermediate to advanced level performance skills the opportunity to apply their technique toward a full-fledged production. Student performers work in a professional rehearsal setting and perform shows on Imagination Stage's Lerner Family Theatre stage fully supported by a guest team of directors and designers from the professional theatre community of Washington, DC. The directorial staff has a vested interest in getting to know each student personally, and in turn holds high expectations for every performer. The ensemble performs two shows each year, with the fall ensemble being open to grades 6-12 and the winter ensemble open to grades 8-12. This opportunity allows them to apply their technical acting skills to a performance environment.

Directed by Nikki Kaplan, Assistant Directed by Alison Gee, and Choreographed by Sara Herrera, The Secret in the Wings is designed by a team of professional designers and artists, including Andrew Cohen (Set Designer), Kris Thompson (Lighting Designer), Robert Pike (Sound Designer), Grace Kang(Costume Designer), and Courtney Cavallo (Production Stage Manager).
