The Howard Community College (HCC) Theatre Program presents the second annual children's touring show, "Hyronomous A. Frog: The Frog Prince." The show will open in HCC's Smith Theatre, located within the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA), with performancesSeptember 9-10, and then will tour Howard County elementary schools. Directed by the theatre department's Managing Coordinator Grace Anastasiadis, "Hyronomous A. Frog: The Frog Prince" will feature current HCC students and guest artists, who will bring this wonderful play to life. The performance can be enjoyed by audiences young and old.

Hyronomous, an inept and lonely frog, is bored and unhappy. He is larger than the other frogs and hates the taste of flies. The good witch Gloria tells him he was once a human prince, and to break this curse, he must be kissed by a maiden. He sets his sights on the spoiled and petulant Princess Gladiola, who is engaged to the painfully pompous Sir Lancelot Pancelot. As Gladiola and Lancelot plot ways to get rid of Hyronomous, our green hero tries desperately to act like a human being. Luckily, he finds friends in Delphinium, the handmaiden, and Aunt Queen Bea, who try to save him from the slings and arrows of the outrageous Gladiola.

Performances are September 9 at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and September 10 at 2:30 p.m. at HCC's Smith Theatre, located in the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center (HVPA), 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, Maryland.

Tickets are $2 for general admission. To purchase, visit howardcc.edu/box office or call 443-518-1500. The box office will also be open 90 minutes prior to each show time and Tuesday-Friday, 12-5 p.m.

About The Theatre Program

The Howard Community College theatre program is committed to helping students develop their individual creativity and artistic viewpoint. Students are provided a solid foundation of theory and technique, exposure to aesthetic and cultural diversity, collaborative skills, practical experience on and off the stage, and ample opportunities for performance. The learning process is strengthened by faculty who are known both as excellent teachers and practicing artists. The theatre program presents a variety of performances showcasing students throughout the year, including a fall play production, staged readings, the popular spring Shakespeare birthday celebration performance, and an annual collaboration of faculty, students, alumni, and guest artists performing scenes, songs, and stage combat.
