Fells Point Corner Theatre & Baltimore Playwrights Festival Present SCORPIONS, 8/6-8/29

By:

Fells Point Corner Theatre and The Baltimore Playwrights Festival proudly Present SCORPIONS (August 6th to August 29th, 2010) a new play by Mark Scharf and directed by Miriam Bazensky.

SCORPIONS addresses living without a net in America when William, a Chinese-American software programmer, strikes up a relationship with Mattie, a homeless woman he passes every day at the Metro. Can their fragile connection survive William's friends - or even each other? Loneliness/Love, Sex/Satisfaction, Loyalty/Power, Race/Class, Food/Shelter: What matters most? What would you do if you lost everything?

Mark Scharf's plays have appeared across the USA and internationally, including shows in Australia, Canada, China, Singapore and the U.K. Mark was a Semi-Finalist for the 2010 O'Neill Theatre Conference and his other awards include Best Original Script in the 2009 Maryland State Theatre Festival, the 2008 Robert J. Pickering Award for Playwriting Excellence, the 2006 Arts and Letters Prize in Drama, and three Maryland State Arts Council Playwriting Awards. Mark has an MFA in Playwriting from the University of Virginia, teaches Playwriting at the University of Mary Washington and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

Director, Miriam Bazensky has been directing in the Baltimore theatre scene for twenty-six years. She will be collaborating with Mark again for the sixth BPF production. She is currently the vice chair of the Baltimore Playwrights Festival and enjoys working on original plays. Miriam also cofounded Uncommon Voices Theatre Company with Carol Oles twelve years ago to produce plays for the Baltimore Playwrights Festival.

Performances will be held on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. (tickets are $17) and Sundays at 7 p.m. (Tickets are $15) There will be two "cheap seat" Thursday performances on August12th and August 26th. (Tickets are $10)
