Children's Playhouse of Maryland, in residence at the Community College of Baltimore County, presents the Maryland premiere of the family musical, Captain Louie, a story of a young boy (Louie) who moves to a new neighborhood, and has trouble making friends. Lonely and sad on Halloween night, he takes an imaginary journey on his favorite toy, a red plane, to visit his old neighborhood and friends. The tricks, treats and surprises will delight young and old, and the lessons about friendship will have audiences leaving the theater smiling. Captain Louie will run 1 p.m., March 13-14 and 20-21 and 4 p.m. March 14, 20-21 in the J Building Lecture Hall at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Boulevard.

The CPM production features 23 youth performers from the Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Harford County regions. Matt Demetrides of Baltimore and Nicole Arrison of Bel Air head the cast as Louie and Roberta. Other principals include Zachary Miller of Baltimore, Ana Pieszala of Timonium, Emil Sueck of Monkton, Zoe Feldman of Baltimore and Brady Widener of Cockeysville. Liz Boyer Hunnicutt directs, and Julie Parrish is musical director.

Captain Louie is a musical adaptation of the children's book The Trip by Ezra Jack Keats. The show features the music of Stephen Schwartz, who has written award-winning music for such shows as Pippin, Godspell, and Wicked.
