CENTERSTAGE will present British artist and international arts advocate Kwame Kwei-Armah on Monday, February 8, in a talk about the innovative ways we can use the arts to exact social
change in our communities.

A co-presentation with Open Society Institute-Baltimore (OSI), Mr. Kwei-Armah will address the audience and then take part in a panel discussion with local community activists from the education, social justice, and arts communities. The evening will end with a question-and-answer session with the audience.

Kwame Kwei-Armah, CENTERSTAGE Associate Artist and award-winning playwright of Elmina's Kitchen (2004-05 Season) and this season's Let There Be Love (Feb 10-Mar 7), is an internationally renowned playwright, arts advocate, community activist, actor, and recording artist.

Kwei-Armah points out that all great societies are defined by their arts. What art defines Baltimore . . . The Wire, CENTERSTAGE, John Waters, Animal Collective, or the Jonathan Borofsky sculpture in front of Penn Station? And how can we use our art to make Baltimore a more perfect home?

The London Evening Standard recently said, "Kwame Kwei-Armah is a playwright, who engages with the politics of race in a combative and thoughtful style . . . racy, funny, and intelligent."

Kwei-Armah's US Premiere of Let There Be Love will play CENTERSTAGE's Pearlstone Theater Feb 10-Mar 7. Featuring Avery Brooks (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Gretchen Hall (CENTERSTAGE's The Importance of Being Earnest), and Pascale Armand (Peter Sellars' For an End to the
Judgment of God), Let There Be Love reexamines our shared immigrant experience in a fresh and provocative way-finding a common humanity beyond racial, national, or cultural identities.
