The Baltimore Playwrights Festival XXIX will hold its first public reading of plays selected for staged readings on Saturday, December 5 at Fells Point Corner Theatre (251 South Ann Street, Baltimore, MD 21231).

The first staged reading at 12 noon is Hammarskjold by Ronald McKinney. It is a psychological murder mystery surrounding an amnesia patient who thinks he is the reincarnation of Dag Hammarskjold, the UN Secretary General who died in a plane crash in the Congo in 1961.

The second play, with a reading at 2:30 pm is by Kathleen Barber is titled In the Shadow of Lushan about Jojo Bannaker's business, her future and her way of life which is about to be consumed by a changing world. When the powerful and appealing Caz Catrowski comes to deal JoJo a final blow, neither is prepared for what will happen next.

The Baltimore Playwrights Festival, which features new work every summer (2010 will be its 29th year) has a mission to provide an environment that nurtures the talents of Maryland and DC playwrights. The BPF does this through public readings, discussions, critiques and workshopping of new plays. The summer season is devoted to the presentation of these newly developed works, for the entertainment and cultural edification of our audiences.
