Rabbit Summer, a world premiere tragicomedy, examines the fracture point of a marriage and a friendship. There's Ruby and her husband Wilson, who idealizes his manhood, his marriage, and his job as a cop. He smiles through pain Ruby wishes he would share. Ruby's childhood friend, Claire, joins the household after her husband is shot by a white officer, pitting black against blue, gun rights against police brutality, manhood against fatherhood, and love against need. The trio battle individually to live their personal truths in an America built on lies.
"For Ally's Second Season, we are examining the uniquely American condition of Being While Black, specifically when that experience is pressed against systems and institutions that have historically barred access, amenity, and advancement," says Ally's Managing Director and Executive Producer, Ivana (Tai) Alexander. "Rabbit Summer opens a critical conversation about the intersection of race, gun rights, and civil rights, while also revealing the struggle of a black police officer serving in a time when police brutality consistently makes headline news."

Founded in 2016, Ally Theatre Company produces theatre designed to engage audiences through acknowledging and confronting systemic oppression in America.
The Women's Voices Theater Festival is dedicated to highlighting the scope of plays being written by women and the range of professional theater being produced in the nation's capital region. The Festival's debut in 2015 featured world premiere plays by female playwrights on stages across Washington, D.C. and was heralded as a landmark in striving for gender parity in American theater. Led by seven of Washington's largest theaters-Arena Stage, Ford's Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Studio Theatre, Signature Theatre, Round House Theatre, and Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company-the Festival leverages collaboration among regional theater producers to create a platform for the nation's most talented and innovative female and female-identifying playwrights and their newest plays.
