Academic Theatre at CCBC Presents These Shining Lives

The Community College of Baltimore County celebrates "The Year of the Performing Arts at CCBC" with two academic (student) productions in October that will inspire, disturb, educate and entertain.

Melanie Marnich's play "These Shining Lives" is based on the true-life experiences of the ‘Radium Girls,' Depression-era women enter the workforce only to later discover that their jobs at The Radium Dial Company have, in fact, compromised their health and rest of their lives. Yet, this lyrical play offers a surprisingly uplifting and moving theatrical look at a tragic moment in U.S. history. As part of the Year of the Performing Arts at CCBC showcasing of its distinguished alumni, Rachel Hirshorn'02, will direct.

The ensemble cast for "These Shining Lives" includes Lianna Brizzi of Havre de Grace, Md. (Catherine Donohue), Sarra Lewis of Parkville, Md. (Francis/ reporter 2), Marcella DiPasquale of Towson, Md. (Charlotte/reporter 1), Niya Buckman of Pikesville, Md. (Pearl/daughter/Judge), Carroll Haupt of Parkville, Md. (Tom/son), Warren Sweeley of Perry Hall, Md. (Mr. Reed/Dr. Dalitsch) and Seth Johnson of Rosedale, Md. (Radio announcer/Company doctor/Grossman/Dancer).

The production staff includes: Terri Raulie (technical director), Donald Schwartz (production coordinator), James Fasching (costume designer), Nick Kanellopulos (stage manager), Kate Gage (theatre technician), Samantha Trionfo (assistant director) and Frank Miller (sound designer). Anne Lefter is the director of Performing Arts at CCBC.

CCBC Theatre and Speech Professor Carl Freundel, ‘80, wrote and directs this original play, "H.U.M.," which premieres Oct. 28 and runs through Nov. 1 in the Q Building Theatre at CCBC Catonsville, 800 S. Rolling Road. "H.U.M.," which stands for the "Helping Up Mission," offers a sobering tale of addiction and recovery. Tickets are $8 general admission and $5 for seniors, students and alumni. The cast features Devin McKay of Baltimore, Md. as Abraham, Edward Washington of Owings Mills, Md. as Franklin/Nino, Ke'an Black of Owings Mills, Md. as Blade/Poet/Aziz, Brian Tyndall of Halethorpe, Md. as Joe/Larry/Stevie/Milton, Andrew Wilkin of Windsor Mill, Md. as Randy/Gregg, Jordan Markham of Baltimore, Md. as Mo/Marc, Stephen Speights of Manchester, Md. as Brut/Jacob, Brandon J. Price of Baltimore, Md. as Terrence/Roberto, James Baxter of Ellicott City, Md. as Thomas/Kyle and Logan Burke of Pasadena, Md. as Sally.
