Last Thursday was World Theatre Day, a.k.a. the day that every theatre kid’s Instagram story is suddenly filled with content. But over 60 years since its founding in 1961, World Theatre Day has become more than just a reason for social media activity. 

For my spring break this year, I ventured into my first-ever solo vacation. It was my first time on a plane in two years, and my first time flying alone - as alone as one can be in Laguardia airport, that is. 

I’ve always considered myself a creative person. I’ve been creating things for as long as I can remember whether it’s stories, dances, or songs. But with all this creativity, I’ve always had insecurities about my abilities and work. There seems to be a persistent doubt whenever I create, and while this seems to be a common issue that creatives deal with, it troubles me.

I grew up in Tallahassee, Florida, which believe it or not, has an impressive arts community. I've always been incredibly grateful for this because, without the opportunities I grew up with in my community, I wouldn’t be where I am today - studying at a university with great Fine Arts programs and lots of experience already under my belt.

If you’d told me that I’d learn an entire musical in two days, have one rehearsal, and then perform an entire weekend of shows, I definitely would not have believed you. But in April of this year, that’s exactly what I did. Something I honestly still can’t believe entirely. 

Most students starting their junior year are gearing up to graduate; they’ve completed all their introductory courses and are beginning to explore more specialized topics in their degrees. However, my junior year has started off a little differently... especially considering I decided to pursue an additional degree on top of my initial degree.
