BWW Review: JEKYLL & HYDE at Wilmington Drama LeagueSeptember 11, 2019Leslie Bricusse's book follows the basic outline of the often told tale. The good Dr. Henry Jekyll is a man with a mission - develop a serum that will separate mankind's innate dichotomy of good and evil to cure mental illness (mainly, his father). Dr. Jekyll's desire to test his formula is aggressively rebutted by the hospital (asylum) board of directors. What's a healer/chemist/visionary to do? Take the serum yourself, and see what happens. What happens in the musical version is more of a 'what did you expect' moment rather than a tension filled drama of good intentions gone horribly wrong.
BWW Review: FUN HOME at Wilmington Drama League - Welcome to the house on Maple AvenueSeptember 18, 2018Let's start with a basic misconception - FUN HOME is not a comedy. The word 'fun' is an abbreviation for funeral. FUN HOME is the shortened, more enjoyable characterization of the Bechdel Funeral Home. Even though the young Bechdel children play inside caskets, and make-up silly commercials for the family business, not everything on Maple Avenue is fun. In fact, things can be downright sordid and unstable.
BWW Review: SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES at Delaware Theatre CompanyOctober 6, 2017Based upon the novel by Ray Bradbury, SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, . presented by Delaware Theatre Company and co-produced with Yonge Street Theatricals, is a vaudevillian, visual delight adapted by Brian Hill, with Neil Bartram as the show's composer. We are first introduced to a lightening rod salesman (Steve Pacek) who acts as the narrator for the tale. He introduces us to Will Halloway, (John Francis Babbo) a skittish and oft neglected teen. Opposite is Jim Nightshade, (Sawyer Nunes) a freedom seeker, who is rebelling against his smothering mother and their sleepy town.
