Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

FIRST DATE Musical Heading to Broadway's Longacre Theatre This July!

Tony Award-winning producer Junkyard Dog Productions (Memphis) has just announced FIRST DATE, Broadway's new musical comedy, has set the date to open at The Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street), Sunday, August 4, 2013. With a book by Austin Winsberg (“Gossip Girl”), music and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (Secondhand Lions, Twice Charmed), choreographed by Josh Rhodes (Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella) and directed by Bill Berry (Producing Director of The 5th Avenue Theatre), FIRST DATE begins performances Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Casting will be announced at a later date.

As BroadwayWorld previously reprted, James Franco revealed on last night's THE COLBERT REPORT on Comedy Central that he will soon be coming to the Broadway stage in a revival of 'Of Mice and Men'- but this won't be the first time that he has taken on the role of 'George.' When Franco hosted SNL back in 2008, he starred in a hilarious sketch revolving around the classic Steinbeck work alongside Bobby Moynihan. Check out their hilarious alternate ending below!

On March 3, 2013, Epic Theatre Ensemble held their Annual Gala, Remix: Mix It Up With Epic. The event was held at the McKittrick Hotel, home of Sleep No More. This year's honoree was Tony Award-Winning actor Richard Easton. Highlights of the evening included performances from high school students in Epic's Shakespeare Remix program (winner of the the 2009 National Arts & Humanities Youth Program Award); the live fundraising auction with celebrity auctioneer Gordon Elliottand the funny and heartfelt tribute to Easton by Ethan Hawke and Aaron Krohn (currently appearing together Off-Broadway in Clive).

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that the NYTW production of the New York premiere of Belleville, written by Amy Herzog and directed by Anne Kauffman, will extend for two weeks through Sunday, April 14, following rave reviews and sold-out houses. Belleville(originally scheduled to close March 31) plays at NYTW, 79 East 4 Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue. Check ighlights from the show below!

Lincoln Center Theater will present The Nance, a new play by Douglas Carter Beane to be directed by Jack O'Brien. The production will begin previews on Thursday, March 21 and open on Monday, April 15 at the Lyceum Theatre (149 West 45 Street). It will star Nathan Lane, Jenni Barber, Andrea Burns, Cady Huffman, Jonny Orsini and Lewis J. Stadlen. Roundabout Theatre Company's new production of Lanford Wilson's Pulitzer Prize winning play Talley's Folly, directed by Michael Wilson, features Danny Burstein as 'Matt Friedman' and Sarah Paulson as 'Sally Talley.' Performances began February 9th, 2013 and it opened last night, March 5, 2013 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street). NBC's SMASH fell in ratings again last night, dropping 22 percent- a new series low for the show. The musical drama, which aired 10-11pm, brought in 2.6 million viewers overall and a 0.7/2 rating in 18-49.

Happy Birthday, Stephen Schwartz! In a career spanning over four decades, Schwartz has written such hit musicals as Godspell (1971), Pippin (1972) and Wicked (2003). He has also contributed lyrics for a number of successful films, including Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), The Prince of Egypt (1998; music and lyrics) and Enchanted (2007). Schwartz has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lyrics, three Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards and has been nominated for six Tony Awards.

It was just announced that C.J. Wilson has joined the company of Roundabout Theatre Company's The Big Knife to play the role of 'Hank Teagle.' C.J. Wilson replaces Adam Rapp who departed the production due to scheduling conflicts. Rehearsals for the production began February 19th and performances will begin on March 22.

This production will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Stagecoach Theatre Arts and will include 3000 young Stagecoach performers aged 7-18 years from across the country and feature a virtual choir showcasing talent from 10 countries around the word.

It was announced late last month that due to creative differences, the producers of Orphans and Shia LaBeouf would part ways and he would not continue with the production. LaBeouf revealed additional details on why he dropped out of the production via Twitter, including emails with Alec Baldwin, Tom Sturridge and more.
