BROOKLYN, NY - Brooklyn's first festival to showcase the borough's emerging artists in theater, dance, and voice will premiere this fall and features, among other cutting edge artists, the Irondale Ensemble who will be performing in their beautiful home, the Irondale Center and other venues across the borough. The Irondale Ensemble will be presenting a minimally staged, version of their spring smash "Color Between the Lines" part of the In Pursuit of Freedom project.

On Saturday, September 29, David T. Little's long-awaited debut full-length opera, Dog Days, created in collaboration with librettist Royce Vavrek, and based on the eponymous short story by Judy Budnitz (1998), receives its world premiere, opening a run of five performances: Sep. 29, Oct. 6 at 8:00 PM; Sep. 30, Oct. 7 at 3:00 PM; Oct. 5 at 7:30 PM. The fully-staged production, directed by Robert Woodruff, premieres at Montclair State University's Alexander Kasser Theater in Montclair, NJ.

Penumbra Theatre Company announced today that it has decided to temporarily suspend programming due to an immediate cash flow challenge. If the fall fundraising efforts are successful, Penumbra will present SPUNK, an adaptation by George C. Wolfe of three tales by Zora Neale Hurston in March 2013 along with the popular Let's Talk Theatre and REEL Talk events. However, strong dedicated support for the Penumbra Summer Institute, a three-year arts education and leadership training program, will enable that program to continue as scheduled.

Frank Dain returns to the cabaret stage beginning Saturday with his first solo show in 13 years. In four performances at the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, Dain premieres "The Magic of Mathis," bringing fresh interpretations to Johnny Mathis signature songs. Contributing creative arrangements is Dain's frequent collaborator, Musical Director Kathleen Landis. The multi-award winning director/entertainer Lennie Watts directs. Performances are Saturdays, September 8 & 15 at 7pm, and Fridays, September 21 & 28 at 7pm.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) improv and sketch comedy troupe, The Comedy Pigs, debuted in early 1993. This coming 2012-2013 season they will celebrate twenty years of laughter with eight prime-time shows, eight late night shows and a two week run of a brand new sketch show for a total of twenty-two hilarious nights of comedy. The Pigs are also adding four new members to the pen for this landmark upcoming season.

Skylight Music Theatre today announced that Viswa Subbaraman (VISH wa Soo ba RAH man), artistic director and founder of Opera Vista in Houston and former assistant conductor of the Orchestre National de France, will become the company's next artistic director. Subbaraman will start his new position with the 2013-14 season.

Detroit, Mich. - Wayne State University's Assistant Professor and Head MFA in Theatre Set Design Pegi Marshall-Amundsen, Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company's Executive Artistic Director Frannie Shepherd-Bates, Wayne State University scenic design graduate students, and members of the midtown community will transform A LOT of Space at the Northeast corner of Canfield and Cass Avenue into an innovative space for theatre companies and performers. This is a project of ArtsCorpsDetroit's Lots of Art and will continue through three phases from September 10-October 22, 2012.
