The stage of the Ohio Theatre, PlayhouseSquare will glow with good spirits and time-honored tradition when Great Lakes Theater (GLT) presents its annual production of Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol, running December 2 - 23, 2011. The production has delighted more than 570,000 people in its history, making it one of northeast Ohio's most-loved and best-attended holiday events.

New Line Theatre, 'the Bad Boy of Musical Theatre,' will continue its 21st season of rock theatre March 1-24, 2012 with the American regional premiere of the Broadway rock musical CRY-BABY, which The Wall Street Journal called 'the funniest new musical since Avenue Q.' The stage musical is based on the cult classic John Waters film starring Johnny Depp. The original creative team is reworking and re-orchestrating the show for New Line, to make it a smaller, more intimate musical for this first production since Broadway.

The VIP musical wine reception on Thurs., October 20, 2011, hosted by the ONE Campaign at the Embassy of New Zealand in Washington, D.C. for the USO and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, was a triumphant success. This was the first time that the ONE Campaign teamed up with Irish Tenor Anthony Kearns for the USO, and the second time the New Zealand Embassy hosted Kearns for a military benefit. (The last time was Christmas 2010).

Local theatre artist Mark Kennedy, hot on the heels of world premiere solo piece Checkers produced in the 2011 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, directs the Philadelphia premiere of Ariel Dorfman's unrelentingly poetic drama Purgatorio under the brand new wings of theatre anti-company [ad hoc theatre project]. On Saturday November 5th, Dancing with the Stars siblings Julianne Hough and Derek Hough paid a surprise visit to the cast of the new Twyla Tharp musical COME FLY AWAY, featuring the vocals of Frank Sinatra. Broadway stars Barbara Walsh (Company) and Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Avenue Q) performed in a sold-out benefit reading of A. R. Gurney's classic play, The Dining Room. Also in the cast were Bill Connington (Zombie), David M. Lutken, (Inherit the Wind), Annmarie Benedict (Robeson) and Tony Wolf (The Action Room).

Alces Productions announces that due to serious cast illness it is postponing the opening of its forthcoming production of John Van Druten's classic comedy about witchcraft and romance, Bell, Book and Candle to Thursday, 10th November. As a result of illness, Christine Lohr is unable to continue in the role of Aunt ‘Queenie' Holroyd. She is replaced by Carole Street, an actress of considerable experience in numerous London Off-West End venues.

Celebrating the art of David Driskell and in honor of his eightieth birthday, DC Moore Gallery's new exhibition, Creative Spirit: The Art of David C. Driskell, features outstanding examples of his work from more than five decades. In his paintings, drawings, and collages, Driskell unites a strong modernist impulse with personal vision, memory, and aspects of traditional culture. As an artist, scholar, and curator, he has made many contributions to the field that have changed the way we think about African American art. Organized by co-?curators Julie L. McGee and Adrienne L. Childs for the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora at the University of Maryland, College Park, the exhibition continues at DC Moore through February 4.
