I Am My Own Wife tell the incredible true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite caught up in the great European dramas of the 20th Century. Unlike many contemporaries, von Mahlsdorf survived the Nazi regime and its replacement in East Germany, the Soviet dominated Communist dictatorship. It won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and received the Tony Award for Best Play. Counter presented Mr. Babcock in the role in 2007 to wide critical acclaim.
