This is the first time that THE SOUND OF MUSIC will be staged in Salzburg, where the famous musical is set.

While the musical has enjoyed popularity and success in Germany, the United States and Britain, it has yet to be embraced by Austria, partly because it "celebrates a Hollywood fantasy vision of Austria," according to the BBC.

But the directors of this production are confident and aiming it at a local audience. The show has been translated into German and a few plot details have been changed. For example, the von Trapp family no longer escapes over the mountains into Switzerland, because everyone in Austria knows that if you climb over the mountains near Salzburg, you end up in Germany.
