American Opera Projects (AOP) and Opera New Jersey reunite sopranos Lauren Flanigan and Catherine Malfitano in The Family Room, a new one-act opera written especially for them by composer Thomas Pasatieri (The Seagull ) with an original libretto by Daphne Malfitano. The dark drama tells the story of two nameless women living in a windowless studio who speak of dinner parties and relatives, of husbands and love and a child named Georgie, but their only company is ominous sounds from above.

Villanova Theatre is thrilled to announce that David Cregan, O.S.A., Ph.D. has been named Chair of the Theatre Department of Villanova University. Himself an alumnus of Villanova (BA '89), Fr. David is an associate professor of Theatre, and also teaches for the English Department. Before entering the Augustinian Order, Cregan spent four years in New York City working as a professional actor. He earned his Ph.D. in Drama Studies from the Samuel Beckett School of Drama at Trinity College in Dublin; his M.A. in Irish Studies from the Catholic University of America; his M.Phil in Irish Theatre and Film from Trinity; and his M.Div. from the Washington Theological Union. According to Cregan, his scholarly and artistic journey began here at Villanova, on the same campus where he currently teaches, directs, and celebrates Mass.

Mind The Gap Theatre and Early Bird Theatricals will present Jessica Fleitman's award winning comedy The Average-Sized Mermaid in August 2011 at The New York International Fringe Festival. The Little Sisters of Hoboken have gone Hollywood in the latest installment of the international musical comedy sensation Nunsense franchise with Nunset Boulevard. The Sisters will commit their exploits to celluloid in a New York City filming of the show for future DVD release, it was announced today by Nunsense creator Dan Goggin. The public is invited to be a part of the live audience for two performances of the show, which will take place on July 15 & 16, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. at the Di Capo Theatre (184 East 76th St. between Lexington Ave. and Third Ave., under Saint Jean Baptiste Church). The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning musical Rent is set to open at TriArts Sharon Playhouse on Friday, July 15. Artistic Director John Simpkins directs a cast of 18 in the rock musical that has achieved international fame and is currently preparing to open a New York revival Off-Broadway.

Following sold out runs of Twelfth Night and Richard II last summer, Sonnet Repertory Theatre announces their upcoming production of Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle, directed by Christopher Schilder. The Caucasian Chalk Circle will begin performances on Thursday, July 28, with an official opening slated for Friday, July 29.

The Disney Channel original series 'Shake It Up' has gotten fans moving and shaking ever since premiering last year. Now, Walt Disney Records is set to release Shake It Up: Break It Down CD + DVD, a collection of upbeat dance songs from the series, including the show's theme song, 'Shake It Up,' performed by Hollywood Records' artist Selena Gomez. The 14-track collection also includes the singing debut of 'Shake It Up' stars Bella Thorne and Zendaya, and many more.
