On August 26th a benefit concert entitled Cancer's Expensive! will be held at the Laurie Beechman Theatre to help benefit Hairspray star Carly Jibson's mother, who is suffering from stage four lung and bone cancer. Renee Zimmerman is 55 years old and has no health insurance.

Public Theater Executive Director Patrick Willingham announced last night from the Delacorte Theater stage that the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust has generously donated $4 million to The Public Theater to support free Shakespeare in the Park and the capital campaign for the revitalization of its landmark Astor Place building, which includes five theaters and Joe's Pub. Members of the Spitzer family were in the audience on Wednesday evening to enjoy the free Shakespeare in the Park production of Into the Woods. The Spitzers' first gift to the theater will be gratefully acknowledged with a plaque at the Delacorte Theater.

Award-winning PBS writer/performer Slash Coleman and internationally renowned Indian musician Kumar Das will present the world premiere ofThe Shalom Bombay Show beginning on August 28, 2012 with five shows running through September 2, 2012 at Theatre for The New City. The production is being presented as part of the 2012 Dream Up Festival. The third annual theatre festival takes place from August 19 - September 9 in New York City's East Village and consists of 25 theatrical world premiers including drama, poetry, music, and dance.

Music Director Grant Llewellyn and the North Carolina Symphony salutes the end of summer and kicks off the orchestra's 80th Anniversary Season with "Pops in the City," a free outdoor concert in the heart of downtown Raleigh. The performance, held in Raleigh Amphitheater on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m., honors the orchestra's 80 years of service to the people of North Carolina with an energetic concert program inspired by Symphony milestones.

This new creative initiative will 'build upon the indelible legacy of The Rep's Acting Company, expanding to include directors, writers, designers and musicians and actors, all of whom will be called Milwaukee Repertory Theater Associate Artists.'

Giving back is an integral part of Variations, A Dancer's Studio director and co-founder Erin Lopez's heart and soul. And so on August 13, Variations, A Dancer's Studio, based in Huntington, Long Island, is hosting "Broadway Celebrates Variations," a star-ridden benefit performance at The Paramount in Huntington. The purpose is to raise money to establish a scholarship fund for talented, financially needy area dance students, not unlike the Queens-born Erin Lopez once was herself.

Exit 12 Dance Company, a contemporary dance company founded by United States Marine Corps Sergeant Roman Baca upon his return from Iraq, will be honored at the Downtown Dance Festival Performance on August 18, 2012 at 8pm at Dance New Amsterdam. The troupe will dedicate their performances in Battery Dance Company's (BDC) week-long festival in downtown New York City to Lieutenant Colonel Mark Weber, an inspiring Minnesota National Guard Army officer with stage IV cancer.
