Following a widely acclaimed tour and run at the Globe in 2011, Shakespeare's Globe returns to the Schimmel Center, the company's New York home, elemental production of Hamlet. Using an Elizabethan-inspired stage in this scaled-down production, a handful of energetic players will perform this inexhaustible play.

Midtown Direct Rep will hold a concert event on October 1, 2012. Titled 'Broadway's Night Off.' The event will include a Broadway themed silent auction followed by a special concert performed by Midtown Direct Rep's company members, all of whom are veteran Broadway performers. Performers include Maplewood and South Orange Broadway pros, Ron Bohmer (Phantom of the Opera), Catherine Brunell (Mary Poppins), Michelle Federer (Wicked), Becky Gulsvig (Legally Blonde), and many more (performers subject to change).

ACT - A Contemporary Theatre under the direction of Artistic Director Kurt Beattie officially announces the 2013 mainstage season. One of the most distinguished artists in the world, Sir Alan Ayckbourn, will stage his play, Sugar Daddies in the fall of 2013. Leading up to that is the musical Grey Gardens with The 5th Avenue Theatre, then the premiere of local playwright Katie Forgette's disturbingly funny take on senior care, Assisted Living, followed by two of the hottest shows from New York's stages last year, Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities and Gina Gionfriddo's Rapture, Blister, Burn, and then Middletown - Will Eno's modern response to Thornton Wilder's Our Town.

The Folger Theatre continues its 2012/13 season with the Washington premiere of The Conference of the Birds, a theatrical adventure based on the poignant 12th-century Persian fable by Farid Uddi Attar about the search for the divine and the quest for truth. Beginning performances on October 23, the production is directed by two-time Helen Hayes Award-winner Aaron Posner (Cyrano, Macbeth at Folger) and will feature original music composed and performed by renowned musician and Helen Hayes Award-winner Tom Teasley.

The Dallas Opera has announced that mezzo-Soprano Susan Nicely will portray twentieth-century culinary icon Julia Child in composer Lee Hoiby's BON APPÉTIT! The one-act operetta, with a libretto by Mark Shulgasser and support from The Perot Foundation Education and Community Outreach Programs, is based on two episodes from Julia Child's popular cooking show in which she concocts a chocolate cake.

Under the baton of debuting conductor Markus Stenz, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will perform Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, "Eroica" on Thursday, October 4 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, and Saturday, October 6 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. German violinist Kolja Blacher will make his BSO debut performing Schumann's Violin Concerto. In addition, the Orchestra will perform Chaos from Rebel's The Elements. Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Dominick Argento, who celebrates his 85th birthday on October 27, has made a commitment through a charitable remainder trust to endow a professorship at the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music to the value of $1.5 million. In honor of Argento, who received his Ph.D. in composition at Eastman in 1958, the endowed position will be named the Dominick J. Argento Professor.
