Short Story Theatre presents an evening of storytelling on Tuesday, December 18, at 7 p.m. at The Laughing Chameleon, 1830 Tower Drive in Glenview in the Glen. Four storytellers, including Susan Block and Rick Leslie, both of Highland Park, Mary Lou Gilliam of Deerfield, and Donna Lubow of Riverwoods, will tell true stories about a day at the beach, revenge of a fifth-grader, missing silverware, and a kidnapping that ties in with 9/11 and a lost boy.

The Pearl Theatre Company will continue its 29th season-and its first season in its new, permanent home on West 42nd Street-with the New York premiere of James DeVita's In Acting Shakespeare. In this adaptation of Sir Ian McKellen's 1987 one-man show, DeVita expertly weaves his personal journey from the fishing boats of Long Island to a theatrical career with details from Shakespeare's life and poetry. In Acting Shakespeare is a comedic and heartfelt tribute to the transformational power of theater.

Rehearsals for RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN'S Cinderella will begin Thursday, December 6 with preview performances starting January 25 prior to Opening Night on Sunday, March 3. (The previously announced opening date of February 24 turned out to be Oscar Night.) The box office at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway at 53rd St.) will open Monday, December 17 at 10 a.m.

SILENCE! The Musical will end its 18-month run Sunday evening, December 30th at the Elektra Theatre. The production will have played a total of 447 performances and eight previews. Originally announced as a strictly limited engagement through August 13, 2011, SILENCE! was extended numerous times by popular demand and transferred theatres twice, ultimately landing at the new Elektra Theatre in the heart of Times Square, which was constructed especially for the show. SILENCE! spawned an L.A. production, which is currently running through this Sunday, December 9th at the Hayworth Theatre starring Davis Gaines and Christine Lakin.

Calpulli Mexican Dance Company brings its celebrated repertoire to Pace University's Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts on Sunday December 9th, 2012 at 2PM and 6PM. The performances were rescheduled due to the impact of superstorm Sandy on lower Manhattan and across the region. The program includes a vibrant celebration of Mexican traditions in dance and live music. The company will premiere Dia de los Muertos (Day of the dead), a captivating work that evokes the unending relationship between the living and the departed with music and dance as the language that transcends. The co-production (appropriate for all ages), will preview on December 13 and run through December 30, 2012 (Press Opening: Saturday, December 15 at 8:00pm, no performances on Friday, December 14 and Saturday, December 29). Single Carrot Theatre announces plans to move to 2600 N. Howard Street, currently Mr. James' Tire Shop in the coming year. Seawall Development will reopen the tire shop as a freshly rehabilitated historic building, focused on non-profits, performance, and dining. Single Carrot Theatre, previously housed at Load of Fun on North Avenue, is the first tenant of the building. "We're thrilled to partner with Single Carrot, which is known for bringing excellent theatre and education programs to Baltimore," says Seawall partner Evan Morville. "Single Carrot Theatre has worked alongside us and selected this building as their new home. We can't wait to see what they do with the space and for the neighborhood."

People gather at the arch in Washington Square Park, and less than an hour and mile later, end up in Tompkins Square Park.

An adventurous lineup has been announced by Museum of the Moving Image for its second annual edition of First Look, a showcase for inventive, groundbreaking new international cinema. Taking place at the Museum from January 3 through 13, 2013, First Look will include 26 works, feature-length and short films from Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, and the United States: a highly selective group of films that are distinguished by their artistic audacity. Almost all of the programs are New York premieres.
