Artists Repertory Theatre today announced that Dámaso Rodriguez has been selected as the next Artistic Director beginning in January 2013. Rodriguez takes the artistic reins of the 30-year-old Artists Rep from retiring Artistic Director Allen Nause, who has led the company for the past 25 years. Well known in Los Angeles for his daring, thrilling and visceral work as a multiple award-winning director, Rodriguez will direct the West Coast Premiere of Ten Chimneys, by Jeffery Hatcher, as his Artists Rep directorial debut in April.

Francesca Zambello's new staging of Les Troyens was given its premiere to rave reviews at the Metropolitan Opera in 2003, when the New York Times called it "a visually stunning, seamlessly flowing, and emotionally involving realization of Berlioz's inspired…retelling of Virgil's Aeneid." Now, almost a decade later, the French composer's monumental Trojan War epic returns to the Met for its first revival, opening on December 13 for seven performances.

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced last week that the Alliance Theatre is one of 832 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. The $40,000 grant was given to the Alliance National Graduate Playwriting Competition supporting the 2013 competition winner Bike America, as well as the staged reading series for the four competition finalists.

Steep Theatre Company will kick off the new year with the Midwest Premiere of Obie Award-winner Ethan Lipton's Luther. This darkly comic examination of America's uneasy relationship with our veterans premiered to much critical acclaim last summer in New York as part of the Clubbed Thumb Summerworks 2012 festival. Luther now makes it way to Steep and Chicago for just its second production. Joanie Schultz, director of past Steep hits In Arabia We'd All Be Kings, A Brief History of Helen of Troy, and The Receptionist, returns to direct the production. The show opens at Steep Theatre on Thursday, January 24th and runs through March 2nd.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) performs its second concert of the 2012-13 concert season, Orchestra Underground: Time Travels, on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 7:30pm at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. The concert, led by ACO Music Director George Manahan, features music that explores the concept of time - its mutability, importance, and role as an organizing principle. Lukas Foss' 1960 masterwork, Time Cycle, is the centerpiece for the program, with soprano Jennifer Zetlanas the soloist. The evening also includes the world premiere of composer and sopranoKate Soper's now is forever: I. Orpheus and Eurydice for Voice and Orchestra featuring the composer as soloist, the world premiere of Kyle Blaha's Triptych, and the US premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Zhou Long's Bell Drum Towers.

The John W. Engeman Theater kicked off their holiday show, A Christmas Carol - A Ghost Story of Christmas, just as Hurricane Sandy stormed across the area. One of the shows underlying themes is that Christmastime is a time of kindness and charity, so the owners of the John W. Engeman Theater have decided to raise money to help in the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
