National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced last week that the Alliance Theatre is one of 832 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. The $40,000 grant was given to the Alliance National Graduate Playwriting Competition supporting the 2013 competition winner Bike America, as well as the staged reading series for the four competition finalists.

Steep Theatre Company will kick off the new year with the Midwest Premiere of Obie Award-winner Ethan Lipton's Luther. This darkly comic examination of America's uneasy relationship with our veterans premiered to much critical acclaim last summer in New York as part of the Clubbed Thumb Summerworks 2012 festival. Luther now makes it way to Steep and Chicago for just its second production. Joanie Schultz, director of past Steep hits In Arabia We'd All Be Kings, A Brief History of Helen of Troy, and The Receptionist, returns to direct the production. The show opens at Steep Theatre on Thursday, January 24th and runs through March 2nd.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) performs its second concert of the 2012-13 concert season, Orchestra Underground: Time Travels, on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 7:30pm at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. The concert, led by ACO Music Director George Manahan, features music that explores the concept of time - its mutability, importance, and role as an organizing principle. Lukas Foss' 1960 masterwork, Time Cycle, is the centerpiece for the program, with soprano Jennifer Zetlanas the soloist. The evening also includes the world premiere of composer and sopranoKate Soper's now is forever: I. Orpheus and Eurydice for Voice and Orchestra featuring the composer as soloist, the world premiere of Kyle Blaha's Triptych, and the US premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Zhou Long's Bell Drum Towers.

The John W. Engeman Theater kicked off their holiday show, A Christmas Carol - A Ghost Story of Christmas, just as Hurricane Sandy stormed across the area. One of the shows underlying themes is that Christmastime is a time of kindness and charity, so the owners of the John W. Engeman Theater have decided to raise money to help in the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Schola Cantorum on Hudson (SCH), the 18-year old choral ensemble based in New Jersey, has donated a block of its concert tickets to volunteers and staff of the American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey (ARCNJ) as a thank you for their Hurricane Sandy relief work.

New Century Theatre Company (NCTC) has announced that Darragh Kennan will assume the full position of Artistic Director for the company. He will continue to share leadership duties with Managing Director, Jamie Herlich. Former Co-Artistic Director, Hans Altwies, remains an active company member and now serves as Secretary on their Board of Directors. While he has stepped down as co-Artistic Director, a post which he has had since the company's inception in 2008, he is still very much a part of the company and will continue to be present in everything related to NCTC in the coming years.

The new musical CHAPLIN, with music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis and book by three-time Tony Award-winner Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Christopher Curtis, directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle (Finian's Rainbow; Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway), celebrates its 100th performance on Broadway at the Barrymore Theatre tonight, Thursday, December 6 at 7:00PM.

The Keegan Theatre announced the launch of its "Wee Keegan" pilot program today, aimed at evaluating the interest in family-friendly theater in Dupont Circle. On Saturday, December 22, and Saturday, December 29, at 11:00 am, Keegan will offer staged readings of How To Catch a Leprechaun, a new children's musical by local playwrights Mario Baldessari and Ethan Slater - and a play which made its debut earlier this year at the 2012 Kennedy Center Page To Stage Festival. The readings are fun for all ages, and will be followed by some post-reading theater games and refreshments offered by Keegan company members and actors.

Hard Rock Cafes in Las Vegas, NV have teamed up with Vegas entertainers for the season of giving. The Aspen Art Museum has announced the selection of renowned contemporary artist Teresita Fernandez as the recipient of the museum's 2013 Aspen Award for Art. The award will be presented on Friday, August 2, 2013, during the museum's 9th annual ArtCrush summer benefit gala. The Aspen Award for Art is given each year to an artist who has made a significant contribution to the field of contemporary art. Past artist-honorees are: Tom Sachs (2012), Roni Horn (2011), Marilyn Minter (2010), Fred Tomaselli (2009), Ed Ruscha (2008), Jim Hodges (2007), Tony Feher (2006), and Richard Tuttle (2005).
