Kelly Cameron's love affair with the theatre began when she was just five years old, on an outing to see the Original Canadian Cast of Les Miserables at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. She instantly fell in love, and is honoured to be representing the Toronto contingent of BroadwayWorld as Senior Editor overseeing the GTA region.Her writing career started almost by accident, though it has always been in her blood as her Mom was an English teacher who firmly believed in the importance of being able to turn a phrase. She also loved sharing her love of theatre with her students (and her children), and was a staunch supporter of the arts in Toronto.
When not at the theatre, you can usually find Kelly with a Starbucks in one hand and her BlackBerry in the other, tweeting, reading or doing something quirky and clumsy for the sake of getting that next big story.
She's incredibly grateful to the amazing Toronto theatre community who have embraced her with open arms, giving her the greatest gift a little redheaded theatre geek could ever ask for - getting to be a part of this vibrant arts and culture scene. She may have never had the skills to be on the stage, but is thankful every day she gets to write about the inspiring people who do.

The National Ballet of Canada celebrates its 60th Season this year with a World Premiere production of Romeo and Juliet. Choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, this production promises to excite and wow audiences by combining the beauty of the long-treasured piece with modern adaptations. BWW sat down with Elena Lobsanova (who will dance the role of Juliet on opening night) to talk with her about the difficulties of dancing in such a well-known piece and the new challenges that come with her promotion to first soloist.

Love Lies Bleeding is an all new ballet based on the music of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and it opened last night at Toronto's Sony Centre for the Performing Arts. After a critically acclaimed run at the Alberta Ballet, the production comes to Toronto for a limited engagement thanks to David Mirvish who is presenting it in the city for the rest of the week. BWW was on hand to capture photos of the lavish production and red carpet arrivals.

Marcus Nance just wrapped a fantastic season playing Caiaphas in the critically acclaimed Stratford Festival production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and is having a one night only cabaret in Toronto on Nov 10th before heading off to La Jolla with the Superstar cast. This past weekend the Toronto Symphony Orchestra celebrated Halloween with a special screening of The Wizard of Oz, where the original film was screened in Roy Thomson Hall with the TSO playing the score. Green Door Cabaret is a relatively new initiative in Toronto, created and founded by Robert Missen in an effort to revisit and re-explore the glory that is old-fashioned cabarets. Every Friday and Saturday night for the rest of November various musical theatre stars will be featured at The Lower Ossington Theatre performing intimate, original, cabaret style works. One of the first events featured husband and wife team Louise Pitre and Joe Matheson, performing songs they had written themselves for the first time ever. BWW was on hand to check out what the series was about, and also got an exclusive backstage interview with Joe and Louise.

2 Pianos, 4 Hands is arguably one of the most successful plays in Canadian theatre history, having played on 5 continents and in over 150 cities. On Sunday night the stars of Toronto's musical theatre scene came out to pay tribute to Des McAnuff as he received an honourary doctorate from Ryerson University for his contribution to the arts over the last few decades. Dancap Productions announced their 2012 Season in style Monday morning, with Harold Prince as a surprise guest to discuss 'Prince of Broadway' the new musical being developed about his life and career. 'Prince' will premiere next summer as part of Dancap's 2012 Season. Also announced as part of the new season were American Idiot, Million Dollar Quartet, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek, West Side Story and A Christmas Story. On Sunday October 23rd the Ryerson Theatre School is holding a special one night only concert at Koerner Hall to celebrate the achievements of Tony Award Winning director Des McAnuff. It has been a banner year for McAnuff, with his production of Jesus Christ Superstar a runaway hit at the Stratford Festival and bound for Broadway in March of 2012. The concert will feature songs from many of Des' shows, as well as cast members from Jesus Christ Superstar, Toronto's Jersey Boys and more. Chess opened on Wednesday, September 28th in Toronto after enjoying a sold-out tour in the UK. This lavish new production comes direct from England, and will play a limited engagement in Toronto before heading to London's West End. Directed by Strictly Come Dancing's Craig Revel Horwood and featuring a cast of some of the UK's most talented stage actors, the production is a feast for the eyes and ears.
