This year, the National Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera ends its run at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. The Phantom of the Opera is currently the longest running show in Broadway history, and has been performed in over 100 cities worldwide.

Television star Michelle Collins, best-known as ‘Cindy Beale' in 'EastEnders' as well as the BBC television series 'Two Thousand Acres of Sky' and 'Sunburn', has been cast as the Nurse in the upcoming production of Romeo and Juliet at the Octagon Theatre Bolton. Romeo and Juliet has been scheduled to run February 3 - March 5.

The New York Times reports that songwriter George David Weiss died in his home in Oldwick, New Jersey this past Monday. Weiss was 89 years old and, according to his wife Claire, died of natural causes.

The 2010 New York Clown Theatre Festival begins on September 3 with its traditional opening day parade from Union Square through the L line subway to Williamsburg, followed by an open-to-the-public pie fight at The Brick Theater. The festival closes on September 26 with the traditional closing day Funeral, with clowns weeping and wailing in the streets of Williamsburg. This year's festival will also present 5 different clown cabarets, including a cabaret devoted to clowns over 50, Short and Fatty's Half-Century Extravaganza.
