Guest Blogger: Shelbea Owen

Shelbea Owen is a 16-year-old rising senior from Marietta High School in Marietta, GA. She has been performing since she was in kindergarten beginning with shows in her school chorus. During her middle school years, Shelbea auditioned for a community theater musical revue show and was placed in the adult cast. She was also selected as one of 25 students throughout the nation to attend Wake Forrest’s Young Performers Program. At 13, Shelbea was the youngest finalist in the McDonald’s GIFT competition. Shelbea received the Best Vocalist Award as a freshman at Kennesaw Mountain High School and Best Overall Female Performer as a sophomore. As a junior, Shelbea transferred to Marietta High School for a more intensive performing arts program. She was cast as Fiona in Shrek, Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray and Ronette in Little Shop of Horrors. In 2015, Shelbea received an Honorable Mention Award for Amneris in Aida at the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards and “Regional All Star Cast” in the one-act competition. In 2016, she received the Best Leading Actress Award at the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards. She is thrilled and honored to be competing for the National Jimmy Awards.
