Molly Garner is thrilled to be playing the Witch in Big Fish at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach, CA. She recently closed the national tour of Billy Elliot-- in Brazil, nonetheless!-- in which she played the Dead Mum and understudied Mrs. Wilkinson. She was lucky to reprise the role at the MUNY this summer. Other credits include the national tours of Mary Poppins and 101 Dalmatians, Claire in On the Town (Gateway Playhouse), Lucy in Jekyll and Hyde (West Virginia Public), Texas in Cabaret (Pennsylvania Centre Stage) and her favorite, Human Comedy (Barrington Stage), where she met her husband Andre. They welcomed their first child, daughter Delilah Grace, this past March.

Big Fish officially opens this Saturday, November 1st. I'm surprised to find myself both happy and sad. I'm thrilled that we're opening, of course. The show is terrific, and I can't wait for audiences to see it. Very few people know Big Fish, so we get to perform for people who have no preconceptions of the show. They have a wonderful surprise awaiting them.

My mother has been reading my blog and her sole piece of advice is to stop talking about my baby. "Remember, NO ONE cares about your kids," she told me, with capital letters and all. "They all have their own and they think theirs are just as special."

As I walked into rehearsal on Monday the sights of three elephant butts sticking out of a wall greeted me. 'Welcome to Big Fish,' they seemed to say. 'It gets even crazier from here.'

On October 6th Musical Theatre West sponsored a Meet-the-Cast dinner prior to the first evening rehearsal. Food was provided by the delicious local restaurant Forbidden City, while the donors and board members who were there to meet the company provided desserts.

Costume fittings aren't always a good time. I've been to fittings where I never once got to look in the mirror. I've been to fittings where I had to stand stock still for an hour at the risk of getting stuck by hundreds of pins. And I've been to fittings where literally nothing fit.
