Syracuse Stage announces today that Anwar Robinson-Top Ten Finalist in the fourth season of American Idol, Recording Artist, Broadway and Film Actor-is confirmed to play the role of Jesus in the upcoming holiday production of Godspell, directed by Stage's Associate Artistic Director Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj. Featuring popular hit songs and multi-media projections, Godspell is a collaboration between Syracuse Stage and the Department of Drama in The College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University.

It's been an amazing thing to watch the growth of Broadway Idol (yes folks, don't be fooled by the name change due to copyright infringement fears!) over the past three years. Though it began as a kitschy idea concocted after a few gin and tonics with my good friend Lily Hung (now NYMF's Development Director) our little contest has actually grown into an exciting showcase for uber-talented and undiscovered musical theater performers. Ken Davenport and Robyn Goodman proudly announce that Altar Boyz, the acclaimed musical comedy at New World Stages, will play its 1500th performance on Friday October 3rd. This makes it the 11th longest running Off-Broadway musical ever - behind The Fantasticks, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, Nunsense, Threepenny Opera, Naked Boys Singing, Forbidden Broadway, Little Shop of Horrors, Godspell, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, and Forever Plaid.

Under the new leadership of Artistic Director Henry Godinez and Managing Director Barbara Butts, the Theatre and Interpretation Center (TIC) at Northwestern University will kick off its 28th season in October with the Tony Award-winning musical 'Sweeney Todd' by Hugh Wheeler and Stephen Sondheim.

The Actors Fund will present an all-star reading of ALL ABOUT EVE, the classic backstage drama that is one of the most entertaining and witty films of all time. Leading the all-star cast will be award-winning actress Annette Bening (The Women, Running with Scissors, American Beauty) as Margo Channing. ALL ABOUT EVE will be presented Monday, November 10 at 7:30pm at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre (230 West 49th Street).

On October 6th at 8pm, at Judson Memorial Church, Danny Glover, Kathleen Chalfant and Linda Powell will lead a staged reading of Emmett, Down in My Heart by Clare Coss. Directed by Kenny Leon, Tony Award winner and Emmy nominee for A Raisin in the Sun revival on Broadway and ABC.

Tony Award winners Barbara Cook and Audra McDonald will star in a one night only concert event, Audra McDonald & Barbara Cook: Broadway Voices For Change, to benefit America Votes on Sunday, October 19, at 8pm at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street).

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director; Ellen Richard, Executive Director) will kick off its 30th Anniversary Season with a new production of Howard Korder's comedy, BOYS' LIFE, directed by Michael Greif starting tonight, October 2nd. The official opening will be Monday, October 20th. This 20th Anniversary production of BOYS' LIFE will feature Jason Biggs, Rhys Coiro, and Peter Scanavino as 'the boys' as well as Dan Colman, Michelle Federer, Betty Gilpin, Paloma Guzman, Laura-Leigh, and Stephanie March.

The cast is set and rehearsals have begun for the American premiere of 'The School of Night' by Peter Whelan. This sublime and sensuous political thriller set in the 16th century opens at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum November 9, 2008, and continues through December 17. Previews begin October 30.

West Coast Ensemble presents the West Coast Premiere of Christopher Durang's MISS WITHERSPOON, directed by Joel Swetow (The Cherry Orchard, Twelfth Night). MISS WITHERSPOON will preview Sunday, October 26 at 3pm; Wednesday, October 29; Thursday, October 30; and Friday October 31 at 8:00pm and will open on Saturday, November 1 at 8:00pm and continue through Sunday, December 14 at the new home of West Coast Ensemble - The El Centro Theatre, 800 N. El Centro Ave. in Hollywood.
