The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is accepting volunteer applications for the 2010 Picnic With the Pops and Popcorn Pops. All concerts are evening performances and held on the lawn of Chemical Abstracts Service (2540 Olentangy River Rd.). The first show is Spectrum in a Tribute to Motwon and R&B on Saturday, June 19. Additional concert include Patriotic Pops on July 3 and 50's Dance Party: A Tribute to Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens on July 17. Beginning June 11, the Department of Concerts and Lectures and the University of Minnesota Summer Session Office will host 24 free, outdoor concerts that showcase local talent and offer a variety of eclectic music from various cultures and genres. All concerts will be played on the Northrop Plaza from noon to 1:00 pm, with the exception of five evening shows. The evening concerts are an exciting new addition this summer and will be hosted on the plaza from 7:00 to 8:00 pm with bands The Alarmists, Maria Isa, Innocent, Charanga Tropical, and Alison Scott. The International Center of Photography has acquired the entire archive of work by renowned photographer Roman Vishniac. The Vishniac archive provides a comprehensive record of his photographs, including prints of many celebrated images of Eastern and Central European Jewish life before the Holocaust, thousands of others never-before-seen, as well as his noted microphotographic imagery. The archive was donated to ICP by Vishniac's daughter, Mara Vishniac Kohn, in recognition of her father's long-standing friendship with ICP founder Cornell Capa. The American Museum of Natural History (Central Park West at 79th Street) host two events as part of the World Science Festival and the opening of a new exhibition Race to the End of the Earth. On Thursday, June 3 at 7:30pm in the Hayden Planetarium Machover, Minsky and Music in the Dome will revisit the musical experient, the Brain Opera, and ofer a sneak peak into Machover's upcoming opera. The Charlestown Working Theater has been awarded a grant from the Trust for Mutual Understanding to support an exchange between CWT and the National Center of Aesthetics Small Theatre based in Yerevan, Armenia NCA Small Theatre, Vahan Badlayan, Artistic Director. Funding from TMU will allow the CWT to bring their performance 'The Odyssey' to the High Fest International Performance Festival in Yerevan, Armenia in October, 2010.

UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts presents various music, plays, theatre, and films in May. On May 10th at 6pm '5 Plays You Didn't Know' will be at Kenilworth 508 featuring second year actors directed by Rebecca Holderness. The plays include 'Ball Boys,' 'Feeding the Moonfish,' 'Small Museum,' 'Blue Like,' and 'Dead Wait.' At 7:30 pm at the Recital Hall Violists' Night Out II with various solo and ensemble music from the chief representative of the alto clef persuasion.
