Burning Coal will return this May to Historic Oakwood Cemetery (701 Oakwood Ave) for the next in their cycle of original historical plays. This year's new script, Oakwood: Generations by Ian Finley will share stories of parents and children through Raleigh's history, including outspoken columnist Nell Battle Lewis, gregarious politico Thaddeus Eure and legendary jurist Samuel Fox Mordecai. Performances are Friday, May 14 and Saturday May 15 at 6:30 PM and Sunday, May 16 at 2 PM. The International Center of Photography has acquired the entire archive of work by renowned photographer Roman Vishniac. The Vishniac archive provides a comprehensive record of his photographs, including prints of many celebrated images of Eastern and Central European Jewish life before the Holocaust, thousands of others never-before-seen, as well as his noted microphotographic imagery. The archive was donated to ICP by Vishniac's daughter, Mara Vishniac Kohn, in recognition of her father's long-standing friendship with ICP founder Cornell Capa. The American Museum of Natural History (Central Park West at 79th Street) host two events as part of the World Science Festival and the opening of a new exhibition Race to the End of the Earth. On Thursday, June 3 at 7:30pm in the Hayden Planetarium Machover, Minsky and Music in the Dome will revisit the musical experient, the Brain Opera, and ofer a sneak peak into Machover's upcoming opera. And on Friday, June 4 at 7 PM a panel, To the End of Earth and Beyond, in the LeFrak Theater, will feature leading scientist discussing 100 years after the first historic South Pole journey. The Hartt School's Director of New Play Development and Professor of Theatre Henry Fonte has been appointed Chair of the Department of Theatre Arts and Producing Artistic Director of The Jerry Herman Ring Theatre at the University of Miami (FL), effective August 1. Fonte, who departs Hartt on May 17, after twelve years as part of the Theatre Division's faculty, will direct the Dramatic Writing Workshop at New Noises Studio at the Perry Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp (CO), and the musical Into the Woods at Intermezzo Festival in Portland, ME, prior to assuming his new role at Miami.

Chicago's premiere improv theatre iO presents Qweirdo!, a recurring showcase of Chicago's top gay comedians and improvisers coming together every Friday in June to make you laugh in the way that only your gay best friend can. The anchor improv team (not a sailor reference) is '1, 2, Fag and Hag!'. This group is Seth Dodson and Kellen Alexander of iO's long-running headlining act '1, 2, 3, Fag!' who are bringing in Chicago's top female improvisers to perform their signature improv style of intertwining scenes with bold, outrageous characters. The Charlestown Working Theater has been awarded a grant from the Trust for Mutual Understanding to support an exchange between CWT and the National Center of Aesthetics Small Theatre based in Yerevan, Armenia NCA Small Theatre, Vahan Badlayan, Artistic Director. Funding from TMU will allow the CWT to bring their performance 'The Odyssey' to the High Fest International Performance Festival in Yerevan, Armenia in October, 2010.
