In this Dallas version of Terrence McNally?s award winning play, both leads are African-American. When the play first opened on Broadway in June 1987 at the Manhattan Theater Club, it starred white actors Kathy Bates and Kenneth Welsh. A revival of the play featured popular actors Edie Falco and Stanley Tucci, both of Italian heritage, with the roles subsequently filled by actors Rosie Perez and Joe Pantoliano, both of Latin ancestry.

Uptown Players has revived this tradition of slapstick with its outrageous stage production Mommie Queerest, a parody of the 1970s book and hit film 'Mommie Dearest' based on the life of screen actress Joan Crawford, now running through Jul. 12 at the S4 Rose Room in the Oak Lawn area.

Vincent Rivers, presented by Theatre Britain in cooperation with Uptown Players, is now running through Jun. 21 at the KD Studio Theatre, is a story that has at its core a hate-based crime, the murder of a young British male named Vincent River. Where this story departs from the manner hate crimes are dealt with in the country, usually as news sound bites, Vincent River takes an organic journey into the mindset of the parent(s) and their quest to understand who their homosexual child was.

What if the story about the original sin committed in the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve had nothing to do with man's quest for equal knowledge with God but rather Satan's attempt to keep man and woman perpetually at odds with each other for an eternity?

Pre-registration is underway for The Dawa Theatre Group 2009 Annual Summer Session, running Jun. 15 thru Jul. 30 from 9 am - 2 pm at The ArtSpace - Art Hotel Gallery, located at 1112 S.
