Set in the summer of 1937, this story draws on Neil Simon's own experiences growing up in a lower-middle-class family in Brighton Beach, New York. Fourteen year-old Eugene Jerome stands in for the author as the play's narrator, a young boy dealing with his own burgeoning sexual awareness while dreaming of playing baseball for his beloved New York Yankees.

The 26th year of one of Miami's most exciting traditions - Festival Miami - is back to kick off the fall season with great and inspiring music. Ms. Valdez comes to the Center after serving as Chief of Staff to City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz for the past two years. Prior to her work at City Hall, Ms. Valdez served as Miami Program Director for the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Florida Studio Theatre's Youth and Teen Performing Arts Workshops begin the week of September 28, 2009. The class schedule has something to offer everyone in the theatre spectrum. Interested youth and teens can experience behind-the-scene classes from the new additions of Theatre for Tots and Kids Komedy Cabaret to Musical Theatre and Teen Scene Study. New Theatre kicks of its 2009-2010 Season with Shakespeare's comedy, The Taming of the Shrew adapted by Roberto Prestigiacomo. This classic battle-of-the-sexes romp is the tale of a shrewish woman and her strong-willed husband, both causing havoc on the conventions of courtship and marriage.

Playwright Richard Greenberg won a Tony Award for Best Play 2003 for Take Me Out. Take Me Out traveled from London to New York in the first co-production of the Donmar Warehouse and The Public Theater, and then transferred to Broadway. He is the author of over 25 plays including 8 South Coast Repertory World Premieres: The Violet Hour, Three Days of Rain (Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, Pulitzer Prize finalist, Olivier, Drama Desk and Hull-Warriner nominations), and The Extra Man. He is a winner of the Oppenheimer Award and the first winner of the PEN/Laura Pels Award for a playwright in mid-career.

Set against the backdrop of the last day of the Civil War, a badly wounded Jewish confederate soldier returns to his Richmond estate and begs his now freed slaves to nurse him. In keeping with traditions of that time, the slaves are also Jewish, bringing into question conflicts of societal and religious acceptance. During the course of the play, secrets are revealed which will irrevocably alter all their lives. The final scene, set to the backdrop of the Passover Seder, will likely resonate with audiences long after the final bow.
