THE MAN IN BLACK Announces Additional Dates, to Now Play 16-21 July at Athenaeum Theatre
New shows have been added to The Man In Black season at the Athenaeum Theatre this July. The season will now run from 16 to 21 July with tickets on sale from Ticketek.
The Man In Black has been performing to sold out audiences around Australia and New Zealand since 2009. The show returns for a limited season to The Athenaeum where it all began with Tex Perkins leading The Tennessee Four to bring Johnny Cash's tough life and legacy of powerful hit songs to life. Rachel Tidd returns to her role as Cash's wife of 35 years June Carter, as do Dave Folley, Shane Reilly, Steve Hadley and Matt Walker as The Tennessee Four.
"The show has developed a life beyond what any of us have imagined. The Man In Black was, and is, an enigma. His music affects people in a way I still don't quite understand. Maybe because of the life he led. All I can say is we're thrilled to be back at The Athenaeum!" says Producer, Simon Myers.
Written by Australian theatrical Producer, Jim McPherson, who confesses to a 40 year fascination with Cash, The Man in Black is 2 hours of Cash's greatest hits including 'Ring Of Fire, I Walk The Line, Folsom Prison Blues, Hey Porter, A Boy Names Sue and many others; interwoven with the story of his rise to stardom, right for survival and eventual redemption. The show explores his relationships - with hardened prisoners to the beautiful June Carter and lots in between.
