Sydney will be the first stopover of the 2010 world tour of ‘Ben Hur: Bigger than the Legend’, the spectacular stadium-sized extravaganza adapted from Lewis Wallace’s legendary best seller.

The joint announcement in Sydney and Paris was made today by the show producer StadeFrance Live Events and ANZ Stadium.

The monumental $10 million show features full-scale chariot races with 32 horses, a cast of 217, over 200 crew and a performance area bigger than a football field.

‘Ben Hur: Bigger than the Legend’ is set for Australian cities in October/November 2010 before a series of international dates, making it the biggest live show to ever tour the world.

As the legend suggests, ‘Ben Hur’ is bigger than any show Australian audiences have ever seen. Only the 2000 Olympics opening ceremony comes near ‘Ben Hur’ for sheer scale, grandeur and the ‘wow’ factor.

The show made its debut at Stade de France in Paris in 2006, playing to more than 300,000 patrons over five nights. ANZ Stadium will have a capacity of 70,000 for the production.

Australian audiences can register their interest at the official tour website – www.benhur.com.au.

Those registered will receive ‘Ben Hur’ tour news and a priority period to purchase tickets before public sales.

Note: Broadcast quality video and still images of the ‘Ben Hur’ production are available upon request.

‘Ben Hur: Bigger than the Legend’ is based on an 1880 novel by American general and author Lewis Wallace and immortalised by the 1959 film starring Charlton Heston that won 11 Oscars.

The production was secured for Australian audiences under a 5 year agreement between StadeFrance Live Events (www.stadefrance-live-events.com) and ANZ Stadium to bring the world’s best Stadium scaled and themed entertainment to Australia and New Zealand.
