QPAC to Host Inaugural BRISASIA Symposium

Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) will host the inaugural BrisAsia Symposium which will explore 'Asia and the Mindful Century' with a diverse line-up of arts practitioners, creative thinkers and cultural influencers on 17 February 2018 at the Cremorne Theatre.

Presented by Brisbane City Council in partnership with QPAC and cultural arts organisation Sounds Across Oceans, the day-long symposium will feature panels examining topics including how cultural heritage influences dance, the intertwined realms of creativity and healing, and the power of film to inspire change, to name a few.

Panellists include renowned filmmaker Herman Van Eyken, tech entrepreneur Sarah Mak, Asia Pacific Screen Awards lead Jaclyn McLendon, artist Robert Henderson and comedian Ashwin Segkar, alongside local experts in Asian tourism, arts administrators and more.

Sounds Across Oceans founder Dr Anthony Garcia said the BrisAsia Symposium would provide opportunities for engagement with a cross-section of creative industry partners.

"This day is all about encouraging thought-provoking discussion that will both contribute to transformation of our city and celebrate Brisbane's ever-evolving identity," Dr Garcia said.

"With such an array of panellists and topics ranging from creativity, to dance, cultural diplomacy and philosophy, the Symposium is sure to illuminate the mind and uplift the soul."

Tickets are now on sale, for more information visit qpac.com.au.

BrisAsia Festival is an initiative by Brisbane City Council and will be held from Saturday 10 February to Sunday 4 March 2018.
