MKA BOUNTY to Play Northcote Town Hall
By: Tyler Peterson Aug. 12, 2015
Placing Campbell Newman under the microscope in an absurdly epic tale of gladiators, hot tubs and bikies, MKA: Bounty plays Northcote Town Hall from Wednesday 16 - Saturday 26 September, 2015 as part of Darebin Arts' Melbourne Fringe Festival Season.
In Bounty, facing growing public hostility to his anti-bikie legislation, QLD Premier Campbell Newman decides to raise the stakes and pit the state's criminal gangs against each other like Roman gladiators in the 'Superjail Arena'. However, when Newman's daughters decide to put on the pink battle jumpsuits for themselves, the Premier and his wife Lisa find themselves caught up in a riptide of violence, sex, corruption, and piña coladas with little umbrellas in them. Written by playwright Eric Gardiner, Bounty offers a searing insight into radicalisation, vice and moral panic in modern Australia. It explores the notion that Queensland only looks backwards so that the rest of Australia can pretend it is forward thinking. Directed by Tom Gutteridge (former Artistic Director of Black Swan State Theatre Company and Union House Theatre), Bounty is an alternative political history of our Northern neighbours.Presented by Darebin Arts' Speakeasy as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival
